The magnificent mountain Dyrfjöll stands between Fjotsdalsherad and Borgarfjodur Eystri. It is famous for the huge gap or door in the middle of the mountain.
The region is known for the stories of elves and they say that the elf queen of Iceland resides there. Her name is Borghildur and lives in Álfaborgir (Elfecity) in Borgarfjordur Eystri, really close by Dyrfjoll.
