Highlands

Majestic and yet so beautiful, the Iceland Highlands simply blows you away. Large lava fields, black volcano sands, towering mountains with huge craters and majestic glaciers dominate this scattered region. The area is mostly uninhabitable and only accessible by a 4x4 Jeep during the summer months. This is where the real travel adventures in Iceland happen.

The Highlands of Iceland are mostly uninhabitable and it covers most of the interior of Iceland. It can only be crossed during the summer in Iceland (June – August), the roads are closed the rest of the year.

In the early years the interior was long all inaccessible. Outlaws are thaught to have hid for years at a time in the highlands, rustling sheep and keeping away from law-abiding citizens.

The Icelandic Highland is divided into 2 categories, Heiði and Háls. The Highlands are like nothing else, rocky deserts, jagged mountain peaks, volcanoes, ice caps, hot springs, hidden valleys and most of the numerous glaciers are also a part of the Icelandic Highlands.
