Reykjavik Winter Lights Festival 9 - 12 February

The Winter Lights Festival focuses on winter and celebrates the increasing day-light after a long period of darkness. It takes place in Reykjavik from 9th to 12th February 2012 and it's sponsored by the City of Reykjavik.

Since 2002, locals and tourists alike enjoy this celebration, which features "an amazing array of events including theatre, street performances, dance, visual arts and much more" Visit Reykjavik reports.

One of the most famous occurrences is the Museum Night, which is held on 10th February. Here a large number of museums, galleries and libraries around the capital's area are welcoming visitors until midnight, entertaining them with live music or other special events.

Beside museums, galleries and artists also many shops, restaurants, sport clubs and other cultural and educational insititutions participate to this festival's activites. Most events are free of charge.
