Volcano Flightseeing Tour

Departing from Reykjavik domestic airport, this magnificent tour flies along Iceland’s beautiful south coast to the notorious Eyjafjallajokull volcano which rocked the world with an eruption in late March 2010. Weather and geological conditions permitting, nature’s raw power can be seen as it shapes the landscape with rivers of molten lava, smoke and ash, and flames stretching skywards from beneath the Earth’s surface.

Additional eye candy en route include another of Iceland’s famous volcanoes - Hekla, neighboring glaciers, Thingvellir - the visible site of the Mid Atlantic Ridge, Gullfoss “Golden” waterfall, Geysir geothermal area, Thorsmork Nature Reserve, and the colorful rhyolite peaks of Landmannalaugar.

Eyafjallajökull and Volcano Power Tour

Depart Reykjavik at 08:30 and head to the active Hengill volcano with a stop at the Hellisheidi Geothermal Plant for an enlightening insight into volcanoes and their many uses in providing Iceland with untold amounts of clean energy. The scenic landscape is dotted with numerous natural hot springs and colorful steam vents.

Then it’s on to the famous Eyjafjallajökull Volcano, stopping at the small town of Hvolsvöllur to enjoy the amazing views of the nearby volcano. After taking in Mother Nature’s special effects show the coach drives to Thingvellir National Park (UNESCO) which straddles the Mid-Atlantic Ridge where the European & American continental plates meet. At Thingvellir National Park visitors can see the rift caused by the meeting of the two tectonic plates. From there it’s back to Reykjavik with a short overview of the city en-route. Duration: 6 hours
