Nature and hiking in Thormsork National Reserve
We cross Hellisheidi pass towards Selfoss town and then continue along the south shore to Seljalandsfoss waterfall.
Then we head to Thorsmork (Þórsmörk = "Thor's woods"), a nature reserve nestled between glaciers and mountains. On the way we cross various streams and rivers that descend from the glaciers. Some days the crossing is quite challenging or even impossible but our skilled drivers are very experienced in these driving conditions and will take you safely across the rivers.
On arrival you have approximately 1 hour to enjoy the breathtaking scenery with its multitude of small gullies and valleys, clad with low birch-trees that create seemingly endless possibilities for the nature lover. Various hiking routes are available and everyone can find a suitable one.
On our way back we will stop at the rugged gorge of Stakkholtsgjá for a 1 hour hike to the end of the gorge. A small river needs to be crossed on the way by stepping from one stone to another. Then we head back to Reykjavik.
We recommend that you bring a packed lunch with you or you can buy it a local store in Hvolsvöllur.
