SPORT FISHING

Salmon rod fishing season in Iceland spans from mid June until the end of September.  Trout fishing season spans from the end of April until late September.

 


 

SALMON FISHING

The rivers of the Borgarfjörður area open during the first days of June every year and are legendary for fine salmon fishing. All types of bait are allowed - whatever gets the fish to bite!

An increasing number of rivers in Iceland are open exclusively for fly fishing throughout the season. Your expert guide will escort to you to the most promising spots and provide flies that have given good results for the river and conditions.

 


 

WHALE WATCHING UNDER THE MIDNIGHT SUN

The Atlantic Ocean surrounding Iceland is abundant in whales, dolphins and marine life during the summer months. A sail on Faxafloi Bay from Reykjavik harbor, on a bright summer night is an unforgettable experience. The midnight sun and the ocean provide a unique setting for a wildlife experience while the mountains surrounding the bay glow in the sun. Your captain shuts down the engines as you listen to the sound of birds and marine life. On the way back to the harbor, sit back and enjoy refreshments served in the ship's saloon.


 

BIRD AND WHALE WATCHING

During summer, the migrating birds from America meet with the migrating birds from Europe in Iceland. Take part in an adventure at sea with a private sail into the world of whales and sea birds. Sail into Faxafloi Bay, with its rich seabird population and abundant marine life. REYKJAVIK BY BIKE

Experience Reykjavik city on a mountain bike, through its many parks and family friendly sites. Start off in the city center, make a few stops along the way at interesting sites such as the town pond and the City Hall. Continue towards the North Atlantic Ocean and cycle along the coast to Nauthólsvík, an artificially heated beach, popular with local families. Then head to the Öskjuhlíð area to visit the Pearl, a UFO looking glass dome, viewing the capital and its surroundings through binoculars from the balcony. After enjoying the spectacular view of the capital area, ride downhill into the city center again.

The surrounding area of Reykjavik City offers a multitude of amazing mountain bike tracks. Get in close contact with the unique Icelandic nature in an exceptional and thrilling way.


 

MOUNTAIN ATV RIDE

The mountains just outside of Reykjavík are the center for a truly exciting ATV (All Terrain Vehicle) excursion.  The ATV will take you places that are impossible to visit by other forms of travel. Areas close to the city which are accessible for fun ATV action include the Hengill and Hellisheidi volcano area and the Reykjanes mountain ridge area.

A valid driver's license is required for driving the ATVs, and children can sit on the back. No prior experience is required for this thrilling sport.

 


 

OCEAN SECRETS

Sail around the numerous islands of Breiðafjörður Bay during a unique adventure boat tour, exploring strangely shaped cliffs and navigating powerful tidal currents. GLACIER ADVENTURE

Aside from its singular beauty, Snæfellsjökull glacier, boasts a tremendous energy level. Many people, all around the world, claim it to be one of the Earth's seven energy centers.

Travel on snowcats or snowmobiles up to the glacier's very top, about 4,600 feet above sea level, and you will certainly feel the energy. On a clear day the panoramic view from the top of the glacier is truly magnificent. Small fishing villages dot the coast line and you may even see as far as the Western Fjords. The mountain's rugged terrain is also impressive, as is the view south encompassing the gulf of Faxaflói, Reykjavík city and beyond. After descending from the glacier enjoy some warm soup and freshly baked bread at a local favorite, the tiny, rustic restaurant "Fjöruhúsið", nestled in the beach at Hellnar. Amazing snow scooter activities are also available on Langjökull and Mýrdalsjökull glaciers.


 

GLACIER WALKING - YOUR ICY PLAYGROUND!

Svínafellsjökull glacier is a breathtaking outlet glacier of Vatnajökull glacier and with stunning views and scenery. The glacier is an ideal playground for hiking and climbing with ice walls of various shapes and heights. This is an excellent spot for an introduction to the sport or to improve technical proficiency.

At the onset of the tour an experienced guide teaches you how to use basic glacier equipment like crampons and ice axes, the required equipment for this tour. Walk through a wonderland of ice sculptures, meander through ridges and leap across the deep crevasses of the glacier. The spectacular scenery of the surrounding peaks can be enjoyed from a different angle on this tour! 

 


 

LAKE SERENITY - KAYAK TRIP

Kayaking in the serene and breathtaking Hvalfjörður fjord is a scenic but challenging tour. This deep fjord is framed in by mountains that stretch from the sea up to more than 3200 feet.

RIVER RAFTING FUN ON HVÍTÁ RIVER

Only one hour from Reykjavík is the stunning Hvítá River with its perfect balance of serene canyons and adrenaline pumping rapids. While braving the 4-5 mile long expedition, we stop at a cliff where those daring enough have the option of jumping 25 feet into the bulging glacial river. This is an exhilarating experience to say the least!

After a day of extreme adventure there is no better way to relax than with a leisurely dip in a hot tub, a steamy sauna and curling up with some warm soup, freshly baked bread and fruit juice. A lavish alternative to this is a "BBQ Fiesta," served at DrumBar Restaurant, a cozy countryside boathouse. Groups of six persons or more can have a private boat and guide, while groups of less than six will join a regularly scheduled tour.


 

UNDERWORLD JOURNEYS

Hundreds of years of volcanic activity have left hidden worlds in the lava fields between Þingvellir National Park and Laugarvatn Lake. For those not afraid of the dark this is a great way to explore caves and unearth the marvels of past volcanic activity.

  • The Gjábakkahellir cave is an Icelandic lava tube situated in one of the most active volcanic areas in the world. Sporting helmets and headlights, professional cave explorers guide you through the lava tube cave as you climb, crawl and trek beneath the Earth's surface. Views of incredible rock formations in various colors, shapes and sizes abound.
  • Surtshellir, one of Iceland's longest and most spectacular lava caves is located in Hallmundarhraun, a lava field consisting of dark basaltic rocks. The cave is the result of a lava flow about 1000 years ago.  Once inside the lava tube you‘ll need a good light, as some parts are in total darkness.
  • Lofthellir cave in Northern Iceland boasts the greatest natural ice sculptures in an Icelandic lava cave.  To reach the cave visitors must travel off-road on 4x4 vehicles along the unique volcano Hverfell, through the crater row of Lúdentarborgir to the roots of Mt. Hvannfell. After a 30-minute trek across a craggy lava field, Lofthellir is reached, with its unbelievable natural phenomena.

 

UNDERWATER EXPEDITION OF LAKE ÞINGVELLIR

The Silfra Ravine is situated in the heart of Þingvellir, a geological wonder of the Mid Atlantic Ridge. In specially made dry-suits to stay warm in the crystal cold glacial water, you dive and snorkel through the deep fissure to observe the surreal landscapes beneath Lake Þingvellir. After the dive, on the riverbanks enjoy a warm cup of hot chocolate and some light refreshments. This is an exotic and serene journey in an other-worldly environment most will only encounter in their dreams.

 


 

SAILING ON A GLACIAL LAGOON

Jokulsarlon Glacial Lagoon has been the dramatic setting for a number of films, including Beowulf and Grendel, Tomb Raider, Batman Begins, Die another Day and A View to a Kill.  Prepare yourself for pure natural art and magnificent sights! The lagoon is about 650 feet deep by the edge of the glacier and is freezing cold. The Atlantic Ocean flows into the lagoon bringing fish with it. It is therefore not uncommon to see seals swimming among the icebergs looking for lunch. In order to get closer to the floating icebergs, take a boat trip with specially designed boats - a truly unforgettable experience!  

 


 

COASTAL EXPERIENCE ON BLACK SAND BEACHES

Starting from the charming fishing village of Höfn, a short sail carries you to a completely uninhabited beach, a strip of black sand holding back the Atlantic breakers from Vatnajökull glacier. On ATV´s, drive to the mouth of the estuary, which is the most challenging entrance channel to any Icelandic harbor. Examine ruins from World War II, observe the rich bird life along the beach, and perhaps spot a seal. Such an excursion along Suðurfjörur beach is not only a fun activity but also a unique opportunity to enjoy the purity of the exceptional surroundings.
