Fishing in the Highlands

Incredible locations, breathtaking panoramas and crystal clear waters

Highland fishing for wild brown trout and Arctic char is probably one of the best kept secrets in Iceland, especially for angling lovers! If you are an angler with a sense of adventure then this tour is perfect for you: exciting fishing in remote, awesome locations, surrounded by breath-taking landscape.

Your personal guide will transport you by 4WD vehicle across the black sands and lava fields, deep into the interior to fish in the purest mountain lakes and streams amidst the untouched Icelandic wilderness.

This tour is available in 2 main locations:

Landmannalaugar

Fishing will be done in several lovely lakes that are like oases in the middle of lava fields, close to the popular Landmannalaugar geothermal area.

Arnarvatnsheiði

A unique sprawling moorland dotted with endless lakes, ponds, streams and rivers where you are unlikely to meet other anglers or tourists.

Floating lines and small black flies are vital although it’s good to have slow sinking lines for use in deeper water. A special selection of Icelandic trout flies can be provided if requested in advance.

Day 1: Arrival in Iceland

Transfer on own to your hotel in Reykjavik city and check-in. Enjoy the day at your own leisure.

Day 2: Drive towards Location & Afternoon Fishing

Your private guide will pick you up in the morning and start the journey towards your fishing location. En route you will stop at a local store to stock up on food and beverages. The lodge will have a BBQ, excellent for cooking your catch. Once you arrive at the location, gear up for the first glimpse of your adventure.

Day 3: Whole Day Fishing Adventure

All day is spent fishing with your private guide assisting and scouting for the most promising location.
You can have hot coffee ready on the bank and warm up a bit in between battles if you dare to take time away from this fantastic sport. If the weather is favourable, nothing compares to fishing in the midnight sun and you can fish deep into the night.

Day 4: Morning Fishing

The morning is spent fishing then it’s time to pack your bags and say good-bye to the wilderness. Head back to Reykjavik city where you arrive in the late after-noon. Check-in at your hotel.

Day 5: Departure from Iceland via the Blue lagoon

Board a non-guided coach for a short transfer to the Blue Lagoon. Enjoy bathing in the geothermal water and soak up the scenic beauty. The coach will then transfer you to Keflavik Airport in time for your flight.
