Go on an exclusive gourmet tour and discover the very best of local North Icelandic food. During the visit to interesting destinations around the Akureyri area we will meet enthusiastic local food producers, farmers, fishermen, and brewers who will share their gastronomic knowledge with you and offer you a taste of their products. Sample as you go mouth-watering local treats sourced especially for you, and, additionally, depending on season, you will be involved in collecting the raw materials.

 

Local Food - Coastline. Enjoy the Seaside Products.

You will enjoy the first half of full Local Food and Gourmet tour. The focus is on the seaside and seafood as well as on the first micro-brewery in Iceland.

 

Farmers Passion. A Visit to the Local Farms and Farmers

Duration: 4 hrs. Min 2 pax

On this tour you will not only become acquainted with the Akureyri countryside but by visiting the farms and farmers in the local neighbourhood you'll also learn to know the Icelandic way of living in a rural area. You will visit a sheep farm, a dairy farm, and a horse breeding farm. You'll call on the Icelandic Settlement hen and visit handcraft workshops, countryside green houses, an old turf church, the Christmas Garden, and the town of Akureyri.

 

Icelandic Churches: They Tell the Saga of our Country.

Duration: 4 hrs. Min 2 pax.

There are over 25 churches in Akureyri and the surrounding countryside. On this tour you will visit some of those churches and learn about the religious life of Icelanders in the past and the present and their cultural history. You visit churches that all are unique in their own way. Some are built of wood, others of concrete, and one of them is even made of turf.

 

Day 1 - Arrival

Overnight stay at Hotel Reykjavík Natura.

 

Day 2 -  Wonders of North Iceland - Akureyri.

In the morning get yourself ready for a flight to Akureyri, the capital of the North. From there, a transfer to your hotel.

Meet your local guide who will stroll with you through the downtown area and introduce you to the cultural life of this most northerly town, located just a few kilometres from the Arctic Circle. Akureyri is a colourful walking city especially when you are accompanied by a connoisseur of the town and can cater the sites to your particular tastes. Overnight stay at Icelandair Hotel Akureyri.

 

Day 3 -  Day at your leisure.

Join an optional day tour or enjoy a winter activity close to Akureyri according to availability. Overnight stay at Icelandair Hotel Akureyri.

 

Day 4 - Day at leisure - Afternoon flight to Reykjavík.

If your flight leaves in the afternoon/evening you might want to book some optional tours or activities. Overnight stay at Hotel Reykjavik Natura.
