About Iceland
Map Of Iceland
Iceland is well known for its great variety in scenery and landscape. It is young and volcanic and each quarter of the island has multiple choices of scenic attractions. Click on the different sections of the map and get detailed lists of tours operated in the area or run through that particular part of the island.
The Westfjords
The Westfjords are one of Iceland´s most sparsely populated regions and a large part of it is an uninhabited nature reserve, for hikers only. Sport activities such as heli-skiing and kayaking are available to travelers and cultural events range from a witchcraft exhibition to a major pop-music weekend festival.

West Iceland
The crown of the West is undoubtedly the Snaefellsnes Peninsula, adorned with diverse volcanic formations, wonderful boat trips and rich bird-life. You can even taste the traditional fermented shark, if you dare or visit the Borgarfjordur area and go into the magical world of a glacier.

East Iceland
Tabletop mountains and fjords, carved out by the glacier during the Ice Age, characterise the landscape of the East, dotted with small, friendly fishing villages. The East Fjords are known for various museums, for example on history or mineralogy and you might even spot reindeer somewhere along the way.

Reykjavik is the vibrant capital of Iceland. The city is full of venues worth visiting, restaurants, cafés, shops, galleries but you can also find quiet nature reserves with wonderful hiking options at the city´s doorsteps.

South Iceland
Once the most densely populated area of Iceland, the South has historical sites such as Thingvellir National Park and Skalholt Bishopric but also nature wonders like black beaches, ice caps, active volcanoes and impressive waterfalls galore.

Reykjanes
This is the area that greets you coming from Keflavik International Airport into Reykjavik. The peninsula prides itself of its volcanic formations, bubbling hot springs, numerous lighthouses and, of course, the Blue Lagoon.

The Iceland Highlands
Describing the uninhabited highlands is almost futile, seeing is believing. As you travel by a 4x4 vehicle or on foot, you see vast barren, untouched areas of stark beauty, lakes, lava fields, jagged mountain peaks, rolling ridges with splashes of moss, incredibly colorful rhyolite areas and cooling ice-caps. Traveling on mountain trails, fording rivers, is an adventure in itself.
