Brekkulaekur

The guesthouse Brekkulækur was built in 1936 and lies in the wonderful area of Miðfjarðaá. Located in a converted farmhouse that has been in the same family for more than 100 years, visitors can experience the peaceful nature found in this scenic river valley.
There are lovely hiking trails in the area that are ideal for bird watching and close by (40 km) is Iceland‘s most approachable seal colony, where seals can be seen in both summer- and wintertime.
The owners aspire to gentle tourism in harmony with people and nature. Visits to other farms, neighbours or festivities can be booked in order to enable guests to get to know Icelanders.

There are 70 purebred Icelandic horses (and one very friendly dog) on the premises and riding tours are available on request. - Longer riding trips among free running horses are possible on some days for experienced riders.
Breakfast and dinner are served in the restaurant specializing in traditional Icelandic dishes of fish and lamb and homemade breads. Accommodation is offered in the main guesthouse, new building & an individual apartment.

The guesthouse is open year round and pick up from the bus stop in Hvammstangi is available on request.
Brekkulaekur was awarded the Nordic Travel Award in 2016.
