Lagarfljót

Unique rock formations and magnificent waterfalls set a stunning background to Lake Lagarfljot, famous for a serpentine monster whose sightings have been recorded since the 14th century.

According to eyewitness accounts and written documents the aquatic creature has been described as a snake, dragon, giant worm, horse, seal, and even the shape of a house.

The water in the 38 kilometer-long (24 mi) lake is made from glacial runoff and the surrounding area has several hiking trails as well as campgrounds.
