Iceland’s uninhabited interior is an ideal location to encounter untouched nature in the areas of Landmannalaugar and Fjallabak. To reach these rarely visited areas several un-bridged glacial rivers must be forged by specially modified 4WD vehicles.
Landmannalaugar reveals surreal geological elements in volcanic craters, multicolored rhyolite mountains, and steaming lava fields.
Geothermal activity flourishes here which you can enjoy by soaking outside in a natural hot spring. This region is also known Iceland’s famed ‘Laugavegurinn’ hiking route which stretches 55 kilometers (34 mi) connecting Landmannalaugar to Thorsmork. There are many other beautiful hiking trails, several camping areas and a crater filled lake lush with brown trout.
