A winter tour to Thorsmork Nature Reserve including overnight stay at Volcano Huts and snowshoeing
Duration: 2 days/1 night
Thorsmork Nature Reserve on the southern rim of Iceland’s interior highlands is a hiker’s paradise in a hidden valley nestled between two glaciers. There are delicate trees and green grass surrounded by towering mountains and glacial tongues.
In the aftermath of the 2010 Eyjafjallajokull volcanic eruption the vegetation was destroyed and covered in a thick layer of black ash but has now almost completely returned to the lovely green splendor of small forests, wildflowers and surprising beauty. There is a campsite, self-catering cabins, and many trails in the area for easy hiking and exploring the unique geology.
