Holar i Hjaltadal

Holar is a popular tourist destination thanks to its many attractions, notably the beautiful nature and its important role in Iceland's history. Holar is surrounded by scenic mountains and stands on the edge of Holar forest. There is plenty of long and short hiking trails for everyone to enjoy. Holadomkirkja (Holar Cathedral), Audunarstofa (Audun's house) and Nyibaer (the traditional farmhouse) are open from 10-18 every day in summer. An exhibition on the past bishops of Holar is also on display during summer time in Holar University College. The museum of the Icelandic Horse History Centre displaying the history of the Icelandic horse is open from 10:00-18:00 from June 1st through September 15th. A swimming pool and a hot tub are accessible in the Holar University main building.
