Hvannadalshnjúkur is a peak in the north-western rim of Öræfajökull glacier, a southern spur of the largest glacier en Europe – Vatnajökull, and the highest point of the island.

This immense glacier covered volcano rises over 2000m straight out of the Atlantic Ocean and the great black sand desserts of the South East. The mountain is a pyramidical peak, situated in the north-western rim of Öræfajökull glacier.  

The official measurement established it´s heights as 2.119,6m (6.921 ft).

How to get there?

There are many tour operators that offer great hiking tours to the summit. The tour takes about a day and many have their starting point in Skaftafell National Park.
