Imagine Peace Tower

The Imagine Peace Tower located on Videy Island off the coast of Reykjavik is an outdoor art piece by Yoko Ono dedicated to the memory of John Lennon. The wishing well monument which symbolizes peace and joy, emits a shining beam of light into the sky and features peace prayers in 24 languages.

Unveiled in 2007, the Imagine Peace Tower is lit each year from October 9th (John’s birthday) until December 8th (the anniversary of his death). It is also lit on February 8th for Yoko’s birthday, in mid-March to celebrate John and Yoko’s wedding and the arrival of spring, during the Winter Solstice and on New Year’s Eve.

Can you see the Imagine Peace Tower from Reykjavik?

Yes, you can. The blue light beam is visible from virtually any point in the city and if you’d like a closer look, take a short ferry ride from the pier at Skarfabakki or the old harbor downtown. On select dates in the fall, Videyjarstofa restaurant on the island offers a John Lennon tribute concert and dinner.
