The Giantess in the mountain

Icelandic folklore tales are filled with stories about elves, trolls and ogresses which are often portrayed in children’s books by local authors and outdoor sculptures by local artists. The Giantess in the Mountain is a large art piece based on a children’s book by Icelandic author Herdis Egilsdottir who has written more than a dozen books about a little girl Sigga and her friend the Giantess.

The ominous, full-sized female troll figure sits and sleeps in a rocking chair in her kitchen positioned in the Black Cave at the northern edge of the Keflavik Marina where she can enjoy superb views over the bay.
