Ísafjörður has one of the largest fisheries in Iceland and fishing has always been the main industry. The town was based and established on the fishing industry and so it is only natural that the museum focuses mainly on maritime history. Four 18th century houses have been renovated in Isafjordur and the museum is located in one of those houses.
In the museum and the area around it you can find all and everything concerning the fish, the fishing, the industry, old production equipment´s – everything from a simple fish hook to a ship. You can also se a big part of an accordion collection.
