Vigur is a small privately owned island in Ísafjarðardjúp, just east of Ísafjörður town. It’s a place where time seems to stand still. Vigur has earned a great reputation and has become a must-see for visitors to the area, especially during the nesting season. The island is home to thousands of birds – eider ducks, arctic terns, puffins and more. A leisurely walk around the island gives you an opportunity to see an abundance of birds in their natural environment.
The family that still lives in the island bases its livelihood mainly on tourism along with collection of eggs and eiderdown. During summer there is daily boat schedule, sometimes even another one in the evening, so you can enjoy a magical sunset while strolling around this tiny island.
