The Husavik Eurovision Exhibition celebrates the role the town of Husavik played in the popular Netflix movie Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga. The exhibition focuses on Icelandic Eurovision performers, as well as showcasing the importance of the Eurovision competition on European culture.
On Friday, June 26, 2020, an amazing opportunity happened for the small town of <a href="https://icetprodblue.wpengine.com/attractions/husavik/">Husavik</a>. Netflix released the film Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga, sparking enormous interest in this charming village.
The town of Husavik was a filming location for the movie. Rather than playing the role of a fantasy village or a town outside of Iceland, Husavik played itself. Husavik is the hometown for the movie&#8217;s musical heroes, Lars and Sigrid.  Throughout the movie, Husavik&#8217;s role grows as Lars and Sigrid realize the town symbolizes what really matters in their life.
<h2>The Eurovision Museum Takes Root in Husavik</h2>
In the days following the film’s release, Husavik became a social media sensation, with posts from people wanting to visit this tiny town near the Arctic Circle.
Husavik resident (and now museum director) Orlygur Hnefill Orlygsson and the directors of the town’s Exploration Museum started to look at ways to use this incredible opportunity to revitalize the town after the Covid-19 pandemic set back the town’s tourism industry.
The team collaborated with Iceland’s European Broadcasting Union (EBU) member broadcaster RÚV, as well as Iceland’s official Eurovision fan club to establish a temporary museum dedicated to the Eurovision Song Contest in Husavik. The team also met with the ABBA Museum in Stockholm and was in contact with the European Broadcasters Union. The EBU indicated their interest in helping support the project.
The developers also established a crowd funding campaign on FundRazr that received great support.  On 15 October 2021, the first room in the Husavik Eurovision Song Contest Exhibition opened. The museum‘s formal opening will take place in 2022 when all three sections are finished.
<h2>Exhibits at the Museum</h2>
The Eurovision Museum in Husavik will have three main exhibitions. The first exhibit looks at the history of the Icelandic qualifier contest, the “Songkeppnin”. The second part of the museum focuses on the Eurovision movie and Husavik’ s role in the story. The third section will tell the story about the Eurovision competition itself and its participant countries through the years.
Some of the items on display from Icelandic contestants include Dadi Freyr and Gagnamagnid‘s sweaters (Iceland, 2020-21), Hatari‘s Hammer (2019), and Yohanna&#8217;s blue dress (2009).
The museum&#8217;s location is close to the JaJa Ding Dong Bar, which takes its name from a very popular song in the Eurovision movie. The bar specializes in signature cocktails and Neapolitan style pizza. Visitors like to see both places, and the museum coordinates its opening hours with the bar‘s hours.
The museum also works closely with the town’s Exploration Museum. The Exploration Museum focuses on the story of explorers through history. The museum puts a special emphasis on the Apollo Astronaut program, in which astronauts trained in the moon-like <a href="https://icetprodblue.wpengine.com/attractions/askja-volcanic-area/">Askja</a>, a wilderness location within driving distance of Husavik.
