Húsavík is a small coastal town located in the north of Iceland in the Skjalfandi Bay, and commonly referred to as “the Whale Watching Capital of the North” due to the different species of whale that frequently enter the bay.
The award winning Whale Museum is located a short distance from the harbour as is an interesting cultural museum which also serves as an art gallery showing works from both local and Icelandic artists.
Built in 1907, the town’s beautiful timber church has been a symbol of the community for over a century. Húsavik is an excellent location from which to explore the magnificent Ásbyrgi canyon and Dettifoss waterfall.
