An impressive Northern Lights experience in the realm of Vatnajokull, Europe's largest glacier
Experience an unforgettable winter adventure in the region surrounding Vatnajokull, Europe’s largest glacier. Nestled below the mighty glacier is the charming fishing village of Hofn, an ideal base for exploring this incredible region. You can request wake-up alerts from the hotel and view dancing northern lights in the middle of the night, one of the most spectacular and beautiful natural phenomena. Don’t forget to sample fresh langoustine (lobster) caught from the surrounding North Atlantic Ocean, a speciality in the local restaurants.

• 2 nights at Hotel Hofn, including breakfast
• Round-trip flight between Reykjavik and Hofn (including airport tax)
• Transfer to/from the airport in Hofn
Day 1: Arrival
Once you have landed at Keflavik Airport in Iceland, please pick up your luggage and head through customs. Transfer on own to Reykjavik and check-in at your hotel in Reykjavik city. Transfers are not included in your package, but we would be happy to arrange an arrival transfer for you, perhaps even with a stop at the popular Blue Lagoon.
The day is yours to rest and use at your own leisure. You might consider a visit to the National Museum, which focuses on the cultural history of Iceland. The axe from Agnes Magnusdottir’s execution is on display here.
Another interesting historical place to visit in the summer is the Arbaer Museum. This open air museum contains buildings from the last 170 years of Reykjavik's history.

Day 2: Northern Lights Magic
In the early morning, transfer on your own to Reykjavik Domestic Airport (cabs are plentiful) and take the flight to Hofn on the Southeast coast of Iceland (flight times vary, depending on flight season and availability). The flight duration is approximately one hour
You will be met at the airport in Hofn by a local driver for a short transfer to the hotel. Check in and receive further information about your stay and optional activities available. Afterwards, you can take a scenic walk on your own through the village and down to the harbor, where you might see fishermen land their catch of the day.
You might also consider booking optional guided tours for northern lights hunting.

Day 3: Glacier Experience
Hofn‘s proximity to Vatnajokull Glacier provides great opportunity to experience glacial wonders in the region. We recommend taking an optional tour to Jokulsarlon, the Glacier Lagoon, where you might see seals swimming between the huge floating icebergs. Other opportunities might include glacier walking in Skaftafell, a glacier-ringed nature preserve in Vatnajokull National Park. and visiting the new Thorbergur Cultural Centre near the Glacial Lagoon, honoring a favorite Icelandic author.
In the evening check out optional guided tours hunting the northern lights.

Day 4: Free Time and Return to Reykjavik
Spend the morning enjoying optional leisure activities in the area or simply enjoying the small town atmosphere. In the afternoon, fly back to Reykjavik. Transfer on your own to hotel in Reykjavik. Evening at your leisure to enjoy the city‘s restaurants, swimming pools and culture.

Day 5: Departure
If your departure flight is in the afternoon, you might want to visit one of the numerous museums or art galleries scattered around the city. Perhaps you´ll stroll along the seaside paths, breathing in the pristine North Atlantic air. We recommend departing your hotel no later than three hours before your light.
On your own, transfer to Keflavik airport for international flight. Transfer not included, but we would be happy to arrange it for you. We can also assist you with extending your trip with hotel nights and tour add-ons.
