DAY 1: Arrival

Overnight stay in Reykjavík. Dinner is on your own. Please note guaranteed early check-in is not included in the price. Most hotels begin check-in around 14:00 (2:00pm).
DAY 2: Reykjavik – Snæfellsnes Glacier National Park – Stykkishólmur

Breakfast at your hotel. Start your journey into the countryside by exploring the magnificent Snæfellsnes Peninsula. Circle around the legendary Snæfellsjökull glacier, mentioned in Jules Verne’s famous science fiction novel Journey to the Centre of the Earth. Continue to the uniquely pebbled Djúpalónssandur beach. Stop at the picturesque harbour village of Arnarstapi with its magnificent columnar basalt rock formations. From Stykkishólmur harbour, you will have the option to embark on a unique cruise, the Viking Sushi Adventure, including nature and bird watching and sampling freshly-caught scallops.

DAY 3: Stykkishólmur – Akureyri

After an early breakfast, depart Stykkishólmur and head to Northeast Iceland. The destination is Akureyri, the trade and cultural capital of the north. You will stay three nights in this charming town. Upon arrival in Akureyri in the late afternoon, take a sightseeing tour of the city before checking in at the hotel.

DAY 4: Siglufjörður, North Iceland

With the opening of the Héðinsfjörður Tunnel in 2010, the historic herring-fishing town of Siglufjörður has emerged as a wonderful new sightseeing destination.
This pretty town is nestled in a dramatic fjord on the very edge of Iceland’s steep northern mountains. Upon arrival, visit the award-winning Herring Era Museum. Here you will be introduced to the story of the 20th century herring migration “boom” that transformed Siglufjörður into a bustling community overnight. Explore the museum’s three buildings before sampling traditional rye bread, local herring and Icelandic schnapps!
After the visit, there is time time to explore Siglufjörður at your leisure. Points of interest include the harbour, the church and local art galleries, cafés and shops. You might even see locations used in filming the 2016 crime drama Trapped. At the day’s end, depart Siglufjörður, via the villages of Ólafsfjörður and Dalvík, arriving back to Akureyri in the late afternoon.
DAY 5: Lake Mývatn

Breakfast at your hotel. Today you will travel in the Lake Mývatn region. Along the way, stop at the awe-inspiring Goðafoss waterfall before continuing on to the stunningly beautiful area of Lake Mývatn, a paradise for nature enthusiasts and bird watchers. Here you can explore pseudo craters at Skútustaðir, peculiar lava formations at Dimmuborgir, Hverfjall Crater, the Nature Baths, solfataras in the Hverarönd geothermal region and Krafla volcano.
DAY 6: Akureyri – Dettifoss – Höfn

Breakfast at your hotel. Today you will travel east from Akureyri to Höfn. The first stop of the day will be made at Dettifoss, which is the mightiest waterfall in Europe. Continue over the barren highland areas to the town of Egilsstaðir, the gateway to the stunning highland wilderness and fjords of the East. After visiting Egilsstaðir, proceed south through breathtaking landscapes of the remote Eastern fjords. Arrive at Höfn town in Hornafjörður in the late afternoon.

DAY 7: Höfn – Vatnajökull – Hoffell

Europe’s Largest Glacier – Hot Spring – Glacial Lagoon with Floating Icebergs
Breakfast at your hotel. Vatnajökull is larger than all the rest of Europe's glaciers combined. Explore some of its numerous astonishing outlets and take an optional boat tour on the glacial lagoon, sailing among huge icebergs in a unique scenic environment. In the afternoon, visit the Hoffell area. The Hoffell community consists of a few farms at the foot of Hoffell Mountain which is 800 meters high and provides good shelter from the often unpredictable northern climate.
DAY 8: Höfn – Skaftafell National Park – South Shore – Hvolsvöllur

Europe’s Largest National Park – Towering Cliffs – Amazing Bird Life
Breakfast at your hotel. Today continue in the shadow to Vatnajökull glacier to Skaftafell National Park and Skeiðarársandur, the largest glacial outwash plain in Iceland. Watch the dramatic scenery of black sand plains and lava fields go by as your group makes its way to Dyrhólaey*, a solitary cliff teeming with bird life. The final stop on the day´s journey will be to admire the mighty Skógarfoss waterfall.
Dinner and overnight stay in Hvolsvöllur area.
DAY 9: Hvolsvöllur – Gullfoss – Geysir – Thingvellir – Reykjavík

The Famous Golden Falls – Exploding Geysers – National Park with Geological Wonders (UNESCO)
Breakfast at your hotel. Enjoy great photo opportunities in the world-famous spouting hot spring area of Geysir. You only need to wait a few minutes for Strokkur geyser to erupt and send a magnificent water and steam column high into the air. Continue on to the magnificent Gullfoss, the “Golden Waterfall” and, from there, to Þingvellir National Park, the ancient site of Iceland's first parliament. The day ends back in Reykjavik in the late afternoon.
