Mountainbike - Bath & Splash in and around Hveragerði Hot Spring Village

Breakfast at your hotel.  Departure from Reykjavik, heading over a mountain plateau with scenic views of South Iceland.  Today’s adventure starts with mountain biking.  This adventure like no other weaves through the charming hotspring village of Hveragerði and its stunning surroundings at the foot of the Hengill volcanic mountain. Take a break at a geothermal park where you will witness a variety of hot springs.  Enjoy the quite unique opportunity to boil an egg in a hot spring, then eat it accompanied with traditional rye bread  baked beneath the earth! Continue cycling along fun paths beside a river and witness the many hot springs sprinkled around the surrounding mountains. Weather permitting, you even bike across rivers with some time to splash around.

End this day in a relaxing environment with a chance to take part in a local custom: visiting a geothermal swimming pool.  All public swimming pools in Iceland use geothermal energy to heat the pools and jacuzzis, as well as to provide the steam in the steam baths. Relax your sore muscles and soak in a hot tub or take a refreshing swim in the bigger pool !

In the evening your hard day’s ride is rewarded with a geothermal cookout featuring Icelandic cuisine at a restaurant with a unique kitchen that is powered entirely by volcanic energy.

Duration: 4-5 hours. Easy level.

Note: Please bring a swimsuit and extra set of clothes if you wish to change after the bike ride and swimming pool visit.

Note:  Bike riding is limited to groups with a maximum size of 20.  Horseback riding in the area may be offered as an alternate activity. In this case you’ll ride one of Iceland’s friendly Viking horses through a beatiful country landscape carved by volcanoes.  Horseback riding is one of the best ways to experience Icelandic nature close up.

Dinner and overnight stay in Hveragerði area.
