In recent years, the design field has been rapidly blossoming and growing from its craft-based roots. Iceland has many well-qualified designers and architects, who have studied both in Iceland and elsewhere. It is of great importance for Icelandic society that the expertise, training and talent of these people be put to good use.

On the Icelandic design afternoon tour you will get the opportunity to visit inspiring Icelandic professional designers and see or purchase unique and quality Icelandic designs.





The Blue lagoon will be closed from 24.-27.April 2017 due to renovations.

For all packages except Reykjavík - New Year's Celebration a supplement will be charged for the travel period 28.Dec 2017 - 2.Jan 2018.

Day 1: Arrival & Reykjanes Design Tour Via Blue Lagoon

After landing in Keflavik airport, please pick up your luggage and head through customs.

Your Icelandic design guide will be waiting to take you on a unique tour around Reykjanes peninsula. The tour starts with a stop in one of Reykjanes' many small towns, giving you a chance to have breakfast, or a light snack if your flight is later in the day.

Afterwards the route will take you on the road to discovering Icelandic culture and design, meeting designers face to face, and listening to their perspective on their art.

Before heading to Reykjavik, you'll enjoy a peaceful evening at the Blue Lagoon, an incredible geothermal spa, set in an otherworldly area where lava and thermal water meet and complement each other.

The Blue Lagoon's warm water and natural active ingredients; mineral salts, silica and blue green algae help you relax and unwind while the Blue Lagoon white silica mud gently cleanses and exfoliates the skin.

The tour is approx. 5-6 hours with about 1,5-2 hours stop in the lagoon. Please remember to bring with you towel and bathing suit. Please note that if you flight arrives late afternoon you can take this tour upon your departure instead.

Day 2: Icelandic Design

Today you will join the Icelandic design afternoon tour starting at 13.00, visiting towns of Mosfellsbaer, Gardabaer, and Hafnarfjordur in the surroundings of Reykjavik. You will visit inspiring Icelandic designers and getting an introduction to Icelandic clothing, furniture, art, jewelry, and food. You will start by going to Alafoss, where you will find traditional Icelandic wool, Design Museum of Iceland, located in Gardabaer and visit designers in Hafnafjordur. Afterwards you will be introduced to some of our top and award winning designers in Reykjavik. You will also get the chance to purchase unique and quality Icelandic design. Tour ends at your hotel.

Day 3: Leisure Day or an optional “Gullfoss Geysir Direct” Tour

Today you can choose between relaxing in Reykjavík, taking another walk into the designers store or go on the popular  “Gullfoss Geysir Direct” tour (upon request).

The Design walking tour offers a visit Harpa Concert hall, one of Reykjavík´s best known landmarks which leads to the old city centre to Grandi where a cluster of Icelandic designer shops and studios are located. You will be escorted exclusively by an expert guide in design and, if interested, you get a chance to purchase some of the design in the shops or studio. You will be introduced to Icelandic clothing, furniture, art, jewelry and cuisine.

During the "Gullfoss, Geysir Direct" tour, you will enjoy the most popular sight in south-west Iceland. At the Geysir geothermal field take a walk around bubbling hot springs and spouting geysers. Then observe Strokkur, the most active geyser of the area, sprouting up to 25-30 meters. Afterwards head to the famous Gullfoss waterfall where enormous quantities of water tumble violently into a deep, meandering gorge. Finally make a quick stop at Thingvellir National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, where two of the earth's tectonic plates meet.

Gullfoss Geysir Direct is 5-6 hours, guided in English daily at 12:30.

Day 4: Departure

If you want to use the Flybus shuttle for your transfer to Keflavík airport, please make sure to book your seat at the hotel's lobby the day prior to your departure. The hotel can also inform about the exact pick-up time.

Budget self-drive holiday

By selecting a budget self-drive holiday you'll lower your costs considerably as you'll be staying in accommodation with shared facilities.
These are a combination of basic hotels, farmhouses and guesthouses. All rooms have made-up beds and some rooms have washbasins. Showers and WC are shared facilities. The first night in all budget self-drives with Iceland Travel include a accommodation with private facilities in the town of Hveragerdi.

Superior self-drive holiday

Upgrade your comfort car rental holiday to the best possible accommodation with premium amenities, either for the full duration of your stay or only selected nights. The upgrade can either be to a superior room in a comfort hotel, or a standard room in an upscale hotel.

Late Arrival Supplement for passengers arriving late evening/night. Stay at Airport Hotel Smari at Keflavik International Airport for your pre night instead of Hveragerdi Area. Supplement per room per night is 48 EUR in Category Comfort and 63 EUR on prices in Economy and Budget.
