Day 1: Arrival

Approximate distance: ca100km / 62miles

Arrival in Iceland - The World’s Northernmost Capital City - Reykjavik’s Best Restaurants & Bars

Pick up your rental car at the airport and proceed to your hotel in Reykjavik. The rest of the day is yours to rest and use at your own leisure.

Why not check out some of the city‘s many restaurants and bars, many of whom are famous celebrity haunts. Put on your best nude-colored bodysuit and strut the streets Kim Kardashian style. Her sister Kourtney was a little more subdued and visited the Hallgrímskirkja church instead, for the best view over the city.

Harrison Ford has been known to enjoy a meal at Austur Indiafélagið. Sushi Samba is one of the last places Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes ate together as a married couple. And of course there’s the famous hot dog stand Baejarins Beztu where Bill Clinton tasted his first Icelandic hot dog.

Kaffibarinn has long been a safe haven for celebrities. At one time it was owned by Blur’s Damon Albarn and stars such as Alexander Skarsgård, Quentin Tarantino and Gerard Butler have been known to dance the night away there.

Overnight in Reykjavik.

Day 2: Gullfoss, Geysir and the South Coast

Approximate distance: ca330km / 200miles

Thundering Waterfalls - Explosive Geysers - Cliffs & Stone Arches - Black Sand Beaches of the South Shore

Head out of the city and drive to Gullfoss waterfall and Geysir hot spring, highlights of Iceland’s famous Golden Circle. Marvel at the explosive natural power of the Geysers as the spout hot water high into the sky. The Kardashian sisters got a bit confused by the smell when they visitied, but don't worry it's just the hot springs!

The Kardashian sisters also visited Fridheimar, the family run farm and greenhouses where Kim and Kourtney got to try every tomato based dish under the sun. Fridheimar grows tomatoes year round under artificial lighting powered by geothermal heat and yields around a ton of crops a day. They also breed traditional Icelandic horses and during the summer months you can enjoy a horse show accommpanied by Icelandic folk music.

The Efstidalur II traditional cattle farm is just a 10-minute drive from Gullfoss. The restaurant, overlooking the cowshed, offers local beef (Ed Sheeran recommends the steak sandwich) and vegetables as well as homemade milk products such as ice cream, feta cheese and skyr (a thick, nutritious yogurt-like product). During your stop, you can watch the dairy cows through a big window in the dairy barn.

You might also want to visit the idyllic town of Laugarvatn, where Natalie Portman celebrated her 34th birthday, and relax at the luxurious Fontana Spa. The small café at Fontana Spa bakes traditional sweet rye bread using the earth’s natural geothermal heat. At 2:30pm every day, you can watch as the bread is removed from its cooking tins in the ground and taste it fresh with plenty of Icelandic butter (this experience must be pre-booked). If you don't have time to wait for the tour we still recommend you try a slice of the cafe‘s rye bread topped with smoked trout from the lake.

Continue your trip, stopping at highlights such as Seljalandsfoss and Skogafoss waterfalls. Walk behind Seljalandsfoss like Justin Bieber in the music video for I'll Show You, shot entirely in Iceland after Justin became entranced by the nature and people of the country. Skógarfoss is one of the most photogenic waterfalls in the area, and a favorite of stars such as Beyonce and Jay-Z who posted pictures of themselves in front of Skogafoss for Jay Z’s 45th birthday. Continue to the majestic Eyjafjallajokull glacier, a star in its own right as it is the site of the infamous volcanic eruption in 2010 that disrupted air traffic all over the world.

Overnight in Vik area.

Day 3: Skaftafell - Jokulsarlon - Vik

Approximate distance: ca479km / 295miles

Skaftafell National Park - Glacial Lagoon with Icebergs - Europe's Largest Glacier

The magnificent Fjadrargljufur is a spectacular canyon about 100m deep and 2 km long. The river Fjarda is often low in water so you can wade into the canyon to see the hidden waterfalls at the end. Or you can just perch on top of one of the cliff sides and pretend you're Justin Bieber singing about life and love.

Next you'll visit the majestic Skaftafell area, part of the Vatnajokull National Park that offers many hiking possibilities through forrests, mountains, black sands and glaciers. One of those glaciers is Svinafellsjokull, where scenes from season 7 of Game of Thrones was filmed and Jon Snow himself, Kit Harington hiked in between filming.

Continue to the shimmering icebergs of Jokulsarlon Glacial Lagoon, where Justin Bieber went for a swim for his music video for I’ll Show You. However we recommend that you let the view from the shore be enough as the water is at sub-zero temperatures. Return to the charming village of Vik in the afternoon.

Overnight in Vik area.

Day 4: Thingvellir - Borgarfjordur

Approximate distance: ca335km / 208miles

National Park of Geological Wonders (UNESCO) - Europe's Most Powerful Hot Spring

Drive to the UNESCO-listed Thingvellir National Park, site of the ancient Icelandic parliament and a jewel of nature. The park itself is situated in a stunning volcanic landscape of mountains and lava flows on the edge of Iceland's largest lake. You might also catch a glimpse of Jon Snow himself, Kit Harington, or some other cast members of Game of Thrones, since the show is frequently filmed there. Continue to Borgarfjordur fjord and visit the historic site of Reykholt, the remarkably beautiful Hraunfoss and Barnafoss waterfalls and Deildartunguhver, the most powerful hot spring in Europe.

Overnight in Borgarnes area.

Barnafoss  |Hraunfossar

Day 5: Snaefellsnes Peninsula

Approximate distance: ca330km / 200miles

Sea Cliffs - Rock Formations - Quaint Fishing Villages

Explore the countless natural wonders of the Snaefellsnes peninsula, which happens to be a national park. With mountains to one side and the sea to the other, visit the wind-tangled Arnarstapi sea cliffs and the rocky beach of Djupalonssandur before driving along the north coast through bustling fishing villages.

The route will take you to filming locations from Ben Stiller‘s movie The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, such as Stykkisholmur, which stands in for Greenland in various scenes; the village Grundarfjordur ,which was used as filming location for the Greenlandic port where Walter arrives after boarding the boat Erkigsnek; and the nearby Berserkjahraun Lava Field.

Scenes from the historical drama Pawn Sacrifice starring Tobey Maguire,  were also shot in Grundarfjordur, so keep your eyes open!

Overnight in Borgarnes area.

Day 6: Reykjanes Peninsula - Blue Lagoon

Approximate distance: ca207km / 128miles

Volcanic Landscapes - Bubbling Mud Pools - Geothermal Spa

The Reykjanes peninsula was the location for scenes that take place in the pre-flood world of Darren Aronofsky's Noah. Stars Emma Watson and Russel Crowe were rendered speechless by the otherwordly, moonlike lava fields around Lake Kleifarvatn. Another suggested stop is at the Krysuvik geothermal area with bubbling mud pools.

Relax at the famous Blue Lagoon with a refreshing dip in the pleasantly warm geothermal waters, rich in silica and minerals that are great for the skin. Recently Kim and Kourtney Kardashian were seen taking selfies in the cobalt blue water while Kim’s husband Kanye West watched from the stylish LAVA restaurant.

On your way back to Reykjavik you can drive up to the Blafjoll ski slopes and stop at the Thrihnukjagigur magma chamber, one of the biggest ones in the world. During summer you can take a tour into the chamber itself, like the Beckhams who got a private concert inside the volcano last year. Although the concert is not included you could sing a little song yourself to try out the acoustics.

Overnight in Reykjavik.

The Blue Lagoon  |Kleifarvatn

Day 7: Departure

Return to Keflavik International Airport. If you have plenty of time stop by at the Vocal restaurant at the Park Inn, where Gordon Ramsey had a meal so good he didn’t even curse once!

We recommend departing the hotel approximately 3 hours prior to the departure of your international flight. **

**Please note that the package price is based on 6 x 24-hour rental days starting at the time of rental. If your flight arrives early on day 1 and departs late on day 7, an additional supplement will be charged unless you choose to return the car in Reykjavik when the 6- day rental is up and use our FlyBus plus departure transfer.

Please note: The northern lights are a natural phenomenon and sightings can not be guaranteed.
