Golden Circle & Soak in a Natural Hot Spring

Start the day with a leisurely swim in the Secret Lagoon, one of the oldest natural geothermal pools in Iceland, nestled amongst bubbling hot springs and a small erupting geyser. Steam rises from the surrounding geothermal area as you relax in the warm mineral-rich water, which holds at 38-40*C year-round.

Then we embark upon the quintessential Icelandic tour to the Geysir geothermal area in the Haukadalur valley, where the Strokkur geyser spouts water high up into the air every few minutes, before visiting the majestic “Golden Waterfall” of Gullfoss, considered by many to be Iceland’s most beautiful waterfall.

Then onward to the historic geological wonder Thingvellir National Park, which is not only the seat of the world’s oldest still-functioning parliament (where the Icelandic Althingi first convened in 930 AD) but is considered the best place on earth to view the geologic meeting point of the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates, pulling apart year by year.

Join us for a day that balances relaxation with exploration.

Tour highlights

Thingvellir National Park. Thingvellir is a popular stop among travellers along the Golden Circle route. It has been a National Park in Iceland since 1930 and was named a World Heritage site by UNESCO in 2004. When Viking settlers arrived in the 10th century it was the site they chose as the meeting place of Althing, the world’s oldest parliament.

Geysir. A favorite stop along the Golden Circle is the highly active Geysir Hot Spring Area with boiling mud pits, exploding geysers and the lively Strokkur which spouts water 30 metres (100 ft) into the air every few minutes. The newly opened Geysir Center offers exhibits and informative presentations year round. Geysir Hot Spring Area is one of the most popular tourist stop in Iceland.

Gullfoss. A ride along the Golden Circle in the south of Iceland reveals the breathtaking Gullfoss Waterfall where traversing a narrow path provides close-up views of the massive, two-tiered waterfall below. In winter the view is spectacular when the waterfall freezes over into undulating waves of glistening ice. On sunny days visitors are treated to thousands of rainbows, a natural reaction with the clouds of spray from the tumbling falls.

The Secret Lagoon. The Secret Lagoon is a natural hot spring pool, located in the small village of Flúðir. The pool is surrounded by geothermal spots and a little Geysir which erupts every 5 minutes, lending the place an otherworldly air. Originally built in 1891 the Secret Lagoon, or Gamla Laugin (The Old Pool) as it is known in Icelandic, was Iceland’s first swimming pool. The pool is fed by a hot spring that constantly replenishes itself so that there is a steady supply of fresh clean 38-39°C water in the pool.
