With this entrance fee you access two exhibitions in one visit!

The Settlement Exhibition

This exhibition will give you an insight into the settlement of Iceland. It shows you how the land was discovered, how Vikings conquered the open north Atlantic Ocean, and why they left the homelands in Norway. Learn about the men that first set foot on the island and how the country was settled, and up to the establishment of the world's first Parliament, the Althing, at Thingvellir in 930 AD.

Through multi-media you will experience first hand the trepidation and excitement of voyaging over open ocean to lands unknown.

The Egils Saga Exhibition

Learn about the most colourful of all the saga heroes, Egil, son of Skalla-Grim Kveldulfsson.

Egil's father was one of the first settlers from Norway, just 10 years after the first land was claimed. The Saga of this family and their pioneering and settlement will give you an idea of the tumultuous years of settlement. Egil himself was larger than life, a violent viking, as well as a sensitive poet. The Saga is a weave of battles and love affairs, sorcery and pagan lore.

Audio guides available in English, German, French, Italian, Polish, Norwegian, Spanish, Japanese, and Russian.
