Vidgelmir is Iceland‘s largest natural lava cave, located in West Iceland. Just shy of 1600 meters / 5250ft, the cave features amazing colours and lava formations that lurk in the depths of the earth. With the aid of the new access walkway, and state of the art feature lighting system, it‘s an easy walk that all generations can enjoy.
Heading out of Reykjavik, we drive through Borgarfjordur fjord towards Husafell. On the way we‘ll make a stop at Deildartunguhver, hot spring, and the magnificent Hraunfossar lava waterfalls. Once at the cave, we start an adventurous and guided walk down the great, colourful and beautiful lava cave. Learn about its history and geological uniqueness which dates all the way back to the Viking age.
Following the cave adventure, we relax at the geothermal pool at Husafell and then we drive straight back to Reykjavík.
