Day 2: Mykines Island - A North Atlantic Gem:

Breakfast at your accommodation. Today we suggest a day trip* to the bird island of Mykines. This island is a “must-see“ for bird watchers and nature enthusiasts. There are only 14 people on the island, so nature definitely has the ruling hand on the island. Cars are not allowed on the island, so the best way to experience the island is to take the ferry and enjoy a guided hike on the island. The eco-friendly day trip includes passage on the ferry and a guided hike. The tour begins from the harbor in Sorvagur village, where you´ll park your car. Enjoy an impressive sailing trip alongside t majestic sea cliffs.

On the island you and your guide will walk on cliffside paths to view birds. You will see the charming puffins with their colorful red beaks and striking gannets that only breed on Mykines.

On your return to Sorvagur, pick up the car and drive to Streymoy Island and Torshavn, the capital of the Faroe Islands.

*The day trip to the island of Mykines is very popular, and there is limited space on the ferry. The tour must be booked in advance. The tour is not available on 28-30 July 2021. Note: The walking path is steep, so this tour is not recommended for people with vertigo or a fear of heights

Day 4: Explore Torshavn and the historical Kirkjubour :

Breakfast at your accommodation. Return to Streymoy island and Torshavn with the ferry. The rest of the day is for you to explore more of Streymoy and the capital city. Walk through Torshavn’s Old Town area (Tinganes) and soak up the atmosphere of the small houses with their white window frames and grass roofs. The old town is unique, not only in the Faroes but in the entire world. (Please respect the privacy of the people living in these historical houses.)

We also recommend a visit to Kirkjubour the Faroe Islands’ most important historical site. Located on the southern tip of Streymoy, Kirkjubour is the site of an 11th century log manor house, as well as Saint Olav’s Church and the ruins of Magnus Cathedral. The manor house is called Roykstovan (the Smoky Room); the oldest part of the building is open for visitors.

Back in Torshavn you will find many different restaurants and cafés where you can enjoy excellent food.(We suggest you book a reservation at a restaurant early, as restaurant dining is popular.)

Drive from Leirvik through the subsea tunnel to Klaksvik. The tunnel is decorated with ‘light’ art by the well-known Faroese artist, Trondur Patursson. When you arrive in Klaksvik, we suggest a visit to the elegant Christian’s Church and the exhibition in the church cellar.

It is easy to explore the other Northern Isles from Klaksvik, each island with its own dramatic landscape. For example: you can visit the island of Vidoy which is the northernmost island of the Faroes. Vidoy has two villages: Vidareidi to the north and Hvannasund to the south.
