Day 1

An Iceland Travel guide will meet you at the airport and bring you out to where the tour vehicle is waiting. Head over the lunar landscapes of Reykjanes Peninsula as you drive to Reykjavík. Your guide will give you an introduction to your tour as you travel to your hotel.
Please note guaranteed early check-in is not included in the price. Most hotels begin check-in around 14:00 (2:00pm).
Dinner is on your own tonight. Reykjavík’s tempting variety of restaurants and cuisines will make the dining experience a delight. (We can also add dinner on this night for your group, if requested.)

Day 2

Greenhouse Farm and Dairy Farm Visits
Enjoy a delicious Icelandic-style breakfast at your hotel. Meet your guide, board the tour vehicle, and depart on your adventure!
Today you‘ll experience Iceland’s landmark Golden Circle attractions. This area is also one of the most fertile farm areas in Iceland, so during the day your group will also visit greenhouse farm and a dairy farm.
Your tour bus first heads to Þingvellir National Park, a UNESCO site famous for its tectonic plate geology and for its special place in Icelandic history. You’ll even have the rare chance to take a walk between two continents!
Next, visit the Gullfoss &#8220;Golden&#8221; Waterfall, which many Icelanders consider to be the country‘s most beautiful cascade. Nearby, your group will discover the lively hot spring area of Geysir. View the vibrant Strokkur geyser spout a column of water up to 30 metres (98 feet) every few minutes, as well as many other bubbling and boiling hot springs.
During the day you’ll visit Friðheimar greenhouse farm where tomatoes are grown all year round. The tomatoes are cultivated all year round using the latest environmentally friendly technology. Green energy, pure water and organic pest controls combine to produce fresh, wholesome tomatoes. Your group will have an opportunity to try some of the delicious tomatoes.
You’ll also visit a dairy farm in the area for an insight into dairy farming in Iceland. The Icelandic cattle breed was brought to Iceland by Vikings in the 9th century, and the breed has changed very little. Icelandic dairy farms focus on providing a healthy diet for their cattle and do not use growth hormones. (Dairy farms visited are subject to availability based on which farms can receive visitors at the time of the group visit.)

Day 3

Grain Farm and Sheep Farm Visits
Breakfast at your hotel. Drive along the iconic South Shore. This is one of the main farm regions of the country, and the road will pass by typical Icelandic farms, often with Icelandic horses in the fields. Depending on the weather you might also get a glimpse of beautiful Mount Hekla, Iceland’s most frequently erupting volcano, and Eyjafjallajökull, the famous ice-capped volcano whose 2010 eruption halted air traffic worldwide. South Iceland is home to the LAVA Centre, an interactive, high-tech educational exhibition depicting volcanic activity, earthquakes, and the creation of Iceland over millions of years. Enjoy both the exhibit and viewing an interesting film about Icelandic volcanoes at the Centre’s cinema.
Stop at two spectacular waterfalls, each with its own charm and character. Depending on the trail conditions you can walk behind Seljalandsfoss. Skógafoss is one of the country’s most photographed waterfalls and is said to be the hiding place for ancient treasure.
During the day, your group will visit two farms. Þorvaldseyri is a dairy farm that also grows organic grain. They produce whole wheat flour and barley, as well as rapeseed oil for fuel. They also offer original products made from their grains.
You’ll also visit a sheep farm in the Rangárvallasýsla area. Your group will get an introduction to sheep farming in Iceland and its importance to Iceland’s development as a nation. The Icelandic sheep breed is unique and has not changed since the Middle Ages.

The South Shore

Day 4

Visit to an Agricultural Museum
Breakfast at your hotel. Today, your group will head west to Borgarfjörður, a charming region of volcanic landscapes, waterfalls, and mini forests. Langjökull, Iceland’s second largest glacier, crowns the horizon. You’ll visit two beautiful waterfalls. At Hraunfossar, the Lava Falls, glacial water rushes through surreal lava formations. Nearby are the Barnafossar (the Children’s Falls), known for their brilliant blue water and for a local legend.
Borgarfjörður is full of Viking history sites, and some of Iceland’s best-known Sagas took place here. This region was one of the first in Iceland that Vikings settled, thanks in part to its excellent hot springs. One of these is Deildartunguhver, the most powerful hot spring in Europe. The sheer power and speed of Deildartunguhver is amazing to witness. Deildartunguhver provides heat and hot water to area communities.
During the day, you’ll visit the Agricultural Museum of Iceland. You will discover Iceland’s agricultural heritage with an emphasis on the 19th and the 20th centuries. The museum has an extensive collection of farm artifacts. The museum has Iceland’s largest collection of farm machinery, some of which goes back to 1880. The Agricultural College of Iceland is located near the museum.
You’ll also visit the Settlement Centre in Borgarnes town to discover how Viking farmers from Scandinavia and the British Isles settled and farmed Iceland. This fascinating interactive museum beautifully tells the story of the challenges and opportunities settlers faced in their journey to Iceland.

Borgarfjörður, West Iceland

Day 5

Visit to Bjarteyjarsandur Farm and the Mógilsá Forestry Station 
Breakfast at your hotel. Today, you’ll head back towards Reykjavík via Hvalfjörður, a scenic region of West Iceland. Hvalfjörður means “The Whale Fjord” in Icelandic, and there is an interesting folk tale of how the fjord got its name.
This is a good region for farming, and you’ll stop to visit Bjarteyjarsandur farm. Several families live in this farm area and welcome visitors. One of the locals will guide your group on a tour around the farm. You’ll enjoy some homemade treats, listen to live folk music, and view an educational video about the farm.
Afterwards, head to Mógilsá, part of the Icelandic Forestry Service system. Mogilsá is a scenic mixed forest and a popular outdoor recreation area for Reykjavík residents. Scenic Mt. Esja looks over the forest. A research station studies sustainable forest management planning in Iceland. Walking paths lead from the research station to scenic areas around the forest.
Head back to Reykjavík, where your guide bids you farewell at the hotel. The rest of the day is open for your own activities.

Hvalfjörður (the Whale Fjord)

Day 6

Breakfast at your hotel. (Please note that this might be a light breakfast if you are taking an early morning departure flight). Depending on your schedule there may be free time to explore Reykjavik, take a refreshing morning walk and do some shopping.
Meet your bus driver at your hotel for an unguided transfer to Keflavík Airport and your return flight. You’ll have the chance to take in some final views of Iceland as you drive along the Reykjanes Peninsula to the airport. Enjoy your trip back to your home country and the fond memories of your time in Iceland!
