Christmas and New Year’s Eve are magical periods in Iceland. The Icelandic Christmas season lasts from mid-December to early January, with different traditions to enjoy. We’ll help your group solve important Yuletide mysteries. Why does Iceland have 13 Santa Clauses? Why do children put their shoes in the window in December? Why are we afraid of the Christmas Cat? Why have there been so many elf sightings on New Year’s Eve? Your group will discover the answers and more fun facts as you get to experience Reykjavik in a different way. We may even show you some natural wonders… but only if you behave.

Christmas in Iceland – 4 day version

Day 1

An Iceland Travel guide will meet you at the airport and bring you out to where the tour vehicle is waiting. Head over the lunar landscapes of Reykjanes Peninsula as you drive to Reykjavík. Your guide will give you an introduction to your tour as you travel to your hotel.
Please note guaranteed early check-in is not included in the price. Most hotels begin check-in around 14:00 (2:00pm).
Dinner is on your own tonight. Reykjavík’s tempting variety of restaurants and cuisines will make the dining experience a delight. (We can also add dinner on this night for your group, if requested.)

Day 2

Christmas Traditions – Icelandic Taste Treats – Geothermal Lagoon
Enjoy a delicious Icelandic breakfast buffet at your hotel. Today you will have the chance to experience the Icelandic Christmas spirit and festive traditions in downtown Reykjavík. Join your locally based guide this morning for a walking tour with winter darkness and glittering Christmas lights all around. On this Christmas themed walking tour, our local host will give you insights into our traditions, old and new, as well as our history, culture, and cuisine of the city. You’ll walk past hidden Reykjavík pearls and local favourite places. You’ll also stop along the way to enjoy little culinary tastes of Icelandic treats.
After you’ve explored Reykjavík, there will be time for a lunch break (on your own). Your group will then be picked up by your private coach  and head to the Blue Lagoon, a unique natural pool of mineral rich geothermal water located in the middle of a lava field in the pure beautiful Icelandic wilderness. You’ll enjoy a relaxing bath in the surreal milky waters of Iceland’s most famous geothermal spas and try the famous white silica clay, an essential part of this ultimate spa experience. The Blue Lagoon is especially beautiful at this time of the year with its elegant Christmas decorations.

Day 3

Golden Falls – Spouting Geysers – National Park with Geological Wonders
Breakfast at your hotel. We’ve reserved today for your group to visit the famous Golden Circle wonders. Your tour bus first heads to the famous Gullfoss &#8220;Golden&#8221; Waterfall, which many Icelanders consider to be the country‘s most beautiful cascade. Nearby, your group will discover the active hot spring area of Geysir. View the lively Strokkur geyser spout a column of water up to 30 metres (98 feet) every few minutes, as well as many other bubbling and boiling hot springs. Afterwards, your group will have a lunch break in the Geysir area. (Lunch not included).
Your last stop is Þingvellir National Park, a UNESCO site famous for its tectonic plate geology and for its special place in Icelandic history. You’ll even have the rare chance to take a walk between two continents! Your trip ends in Reykjavík in the late afternoon where your guide will say farewell to your group. The rest of the day is open for your own activities in the city.

Golden Circle

Day 4

Breakfast at your hotel. (Please note that this might be a light breakfast if you are taking an early morning departure flight). Depending on your schedule there may be free time to explore Reykjavik, take a refreshing morning walk and do some shopping.
Meet your bus driver at your hotel for an unguided transfer to Keflavík Airport and your return flight. You’ll have the chance to take in some final views of Iceland as you drive along the Reykjanes Peninsula to the airport. Enjoy your trip back to your home country and the fond memories of your time in Iceland!
