Go whale watching in the historical Whale Capital of Iceland, Husavik, on this Classic Whale Watching Tour. See the gentle giants in their natural habitat.

Husavik was among the first place in Iceland to offer whale watching tours and is still one of the places to see the gentle giants that swim around Iceland‘s coastline.

Experience this classic whale watching tour from Husavik and sail in the magnificent nature of Skjalfandi bay in hopes of seeing whales, dolphins and seabirds in their natural habitat.

To make your experience even more authentic you will sale in a traditional Icelandic oak boat by the pioneers of whale watching in Iceland while you enjoy a cup of hot cocoa and traditional Icelandic Scones.

Highlights

Husavik. Set along the eastern shore of Skjalfandi Bay, Husavik is a delightful town that has come into its own as a tourism destination in recent years. The plankton and fish-rich feeding ground of the surrounding waters have allowed the town to establish itself as the undisputed ‘Whale Watching Capital’ of Europe boasting astonishingly high success rates. Whales are often encountered within 20 minutes of leaving the harbor and include such magnificent species as the elusive humpback whale and the enormous blue whale.

Whale watching. Witness the gentle giants in their natural surroundings. Iceland is one of the best places in the world to go whale watching. Seeing these great mammals is truly an unforgettable experience. Around Iceland there are over 20 different species of whales, 8 of which are regularly seen on whale watching tours, e.g. the humpback whale, minke whale and orcas. They come to feed here and the conditions are good for them, i.e. around Iceland two currents mix, hot water and cold arctic waters, and the bays and fjords offer relatively shallow water. These combined make favorable feeding condition for the whales.

Included

  • Professional Guide
  • Warm 66° North overalls and raincoats if needed
  • Hot chocolate and cinnamon buns

Important

Tour starts at the harbour in Husavik.

PLEASE NOTE: This tour is weather dependent and sightings are not guaranteed. The biggest factor in our tours is the wind, so when the wind is slow we can go on a whale watching tour.

Due to new Covid-19 regulations in Iceland, we have made the following changes to our trips:

  • Unfortunately, we cannot offer passengers overalls on our tours.
  • We will not be offering hot chocolate or cinnamon rolls.
  • All passengers must wear face masks on the tours. We provide these at our ticket office.
  • We ask all passengers to follow the 2 meter rule in the ticket office, on the pier and on the boats.
  • Please bring very warm clothes with you, hats and gloves.

I thought Whale watching would be a fairly quiet experience but I was completely wrong. The whales are unpredictable, they can emerge at any place and at any moment. So you have to be quick to spot them. So expect a fun experience, looking out for whales left and right!
