Explore the fascinating world beneath the surface in one of Iceland best-kept secrets, the Silfra Gorge in Thingvellir National Park. On this tour you go diving into Silfra.

Silfra is an extraordinary dive site located in Thingvellir, known for its unusual tectonic and volcanic environment,  the national park of Iceland and named a world heritage site by UNESCO in 2004.

On this world-class dive tour, you will dive in two spots along the Silfra ravine.  Experience the magical feeling of weightless gliding across Iceland’s very own clear glacier waters in a scenic environment. The crystal clear and fresh water offers an otherworldly view of the rock formations and plant life of this underwater lava field. Nowhere else in the world will you have the opportunity to swim between two continents, as this underwater river flows between two tectonic plates connecting Europe and North America. This is truly a life-changing experience.

The Depth of Silfra varies from 10 to 40 meters but our dive depth is limited to 18 meters by park regulations.

PLEASE NOTE: In the winter time if the temperature falls below -0°C we will only do one extended dive. This is because the dive equipment will freeze up when we exit the water.

Highlights

Þingvellir. Thingvellir is a favourite stop among travellers along the Golden Circle route. It has been a National Park in Iceland since 1930 and was named a World Heritage site by UNESCO in 2004. When Viking settlers arrived in the 10th century it was the site they chose as the meeting place of Althing, the world’s oldest parliament. Aside from its historic interest, Thingvellir holds a special appeal for nature lovers. It is the visible site of the mid-Atlantic Ridge where the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates meet and are being pulled apart at a rate of 2 centimetres (nearly an inch) per year, creating the Thingvellir Rift Valley. The geology here is not only interesting to learn about but also spectacular to behold.

Silfra. Silfra is located in  Þingvellir National Park. Silfra is one of the fascinating natural wonders in Iceland and extremely popular with travellers. With crystal clear and fresh waters and its geological significance makes it one of the most popular places in Iceland to snorkel and dive in. The depth varies but the deepest part of Silfra is 36 meters (207 ft.) and the temperature of the water is between 2 – 4 C (36-9 F).
