If you arrive early in the day, we recommend a visit to one of the city’s many geothermal swimming pools. They appeal to families with children of all ages.

Day 3: Christmas Spirit and Volcanic Landscapes

Breakfast at your hotel. Today is all about having fun with your family and getting you into the Christmas spirit!

Your guide will meet you at your hotel in Akureyri. Start your tour by visiting the magical Godafoss Waterfall in its winter glory. Then head to the magic and mystery of the Lake Myvatn volcanic area. You‘ll see volcanic wonders such as pseudo-craters, Krafla volcano and the bright colors and bubbling mud pots of Hverrarond.

The volcanic formations of Dimmuborgir are the home to the thirteen Icelandic Yule Lads, the Icelandic version of Santa Claus. Today these friendly spirits will come out to play pranks, sing and dance with their visitors.

In the afternoon, visit the Myvatn Nature Baths where your family can opt for a relaxing soak in the geothermal water (admission not included). It‘s a truly refreshing experience! Return to the festive holiday atmosphere of Akureyri for the evening.
