This is one of our all-time favourite Icelandic day tours! It combines a tour of the popular Golden Circle and an unforgettable glacier adventure on Iceland’s second largest ice cap.
The first stop is in Thingvellir National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site listing and the location of the world’s oldest existing parliament. The name “Thingvellir” literally means “Parliament Plains”. Thingvellir lies on the boundaries of the American and Eurasian tectonic plates that are pulling apart at a rate of 2 cm (less than one inch) a year. This explains the numerous fissures and cracks crisscrossing the area.
The next stop is the iconic Geysir Hot Springs, where the world-famous geyser Strokkur erupts every few minutes to the delight of onlookers. The geyser is one of the most photographed tourist attractions in the world, but you need to stay focused and with your finger on the button to get that perfect photo as you never quite know when Strokkur will erupt.
Our third stop is at the marvellous Gullfoss Waterfall. Here the Hvítá glacial river cascades down 32 metres (104 feet) on two levels into a deep canyon with a thundering roar, creating a breath-taking spectacle.
The fourth and final stop is Langjokull Glacier, Iceland’s second largest ice cap, where you’ll embark on a once-in-a-lifetime adventure. Custom-made Super Trucks will bring you to the snowmobile base-camp located at the foot of Langjokull glacier. From there your group will head off on a thrilling snowmobile tour across the glistening white terrain, surrounded by unrivalled panoramic views.
The bus that will take you on this adventure is equipped with modern comforts such as Wi-Fi connected computer tablets in each seat and a USB charger. The tablets include a GPS Sensitive In-Bus Audio Guide, available in ten languages.
