Step aboard the ever-popular Golden Circle tour, which includes stops at the historic Thingvellir National Park, the magnificent Geysir Hot Springs and the majestic Gullfoss, often dubbed the queen of Icelandic waterfalls. The beauty of the Golden Circle hop on/off tour is that you can see the destinations at your own pace! It allows you to decide where you’d like to stop and for how long.
The tour takes 7,5 – 11,5 hours, depending on how much time you want to spend at any location. We offer four departures from every stop on the route, allowing enough time and freedom to enjoy each site. So why not enjoy your lunch while taking in the beautiful surroundings of Thingvellir National Park? Or hike up the hill above Geysir to get a panoramic view of the area? Other activities we recommend combining with this tour are listed below.
Our first stop is Thingvellir National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, where the viking settlers established their first national parliament in 930 AD. This is also where the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates meet and are dramatically drifting apart at an annual rate of 2 cm (less than one inch). Thingvallavatn, Iceland’s largest and most pristine lake, is located within the park as well.
The next stop is the otherworldly Geysir geothermal area where the iconic geyser, Strokkur, erupts every few minutes, creating a wonderful spectacle and the perfect photo opportunity for visitors.
Our last stop is the awe-inspiring Gullfoss Waterfall, one of Iceland‘s most popular tourist attractions. The sight of the powerful Hvita glacial river cascading down 32 meters (105 feet) on two levels and into a deep canyon is one that will leave you breathless.
The bus that will take you on this adventure is equipped with modern comforts such as Wi-FI connected computer tablets in each seat and a USB charger. The tablets include a GPS Sensitive In-Bus Audio Guide, available in ten languages. This allows you to take in an array of interesting facts about Iceland and the places being visited in a language you are comfortable with. If any additional questions arise during the trip, our onboard local host will gladly be of assistance.
There’s no way you can leave Iceland without doing the Golden Circle – it’s simply a must!
