Go on a magical journey deep inside a man-made Ice Cave and visit the largest Lava Cave in Iceland. An unforgettable experience all in one day on the Into Ice and Lava tour!
We leave early from Reykjavik and catch the crisp morning view of the Langjokull Glacier where the ice cave is situated and the surrounding lava fields where the lava cave can be found.
You soon learn that in Iceland virtually anything is possible – before you know it you suddenly find yourself standing on top of an ice cap and about to begin your descent below the surface to explore what lies beneath.
The Ice Cave is a man-made glacier cave high up in a remote area in the highlands of Iceland. The glacier is in constant motion and you can witness that movement firsthand. The temperature inside the glacier is usually around 0 ℃ (32 °F) and until very recently what lay beneath the surface of Langjokull was a mystery.
After our ice cave tour, we get back on board the glacier truck and head straight to Iceland’s mightiest lava cave, Vidgelmir. Just shy of 5,250 feet (1,600 meters), Vidgelmir is one of the largest lava caves in the world.
Afterwards, we take a scenic route back to Reykjavik.
Husafell is a historic farm and church estate in south-west Iceland that now serves as a hub for visitors, with amenities such as a swimming pool, golf course, convenience store, various types of accommodation and more. Húsafell is about 90 minutes drive from Reykjavik.
Langjökull Glacier is the second biggest glacier in Iceland. Langjökull is the home of the unique glacier cave and a paradise for snowmobile and super-jeep lovers. Its volume is 195 km³ and the ice is up to 580 m (1,900 ft) thick. The highest point of the ice cap is about 1,450 m (4,760 ft) above sea level.
Vidgelmir cave is one of the biggest caves in Iceland. Spectacular lighting complements the amazing colours and lava formations that lurk down in the depths of the Earth. Bones and jewellery from the Viking era were found in the cave in 1993.
