Step into one of Iceland’s most remote and peaceful places on this private guided jeep tour to Mjóifjörður – a narrow fjord known for solitude, natural beauty, and tiny population. Home to only around 14 year-round residents, the village of Brekkuþorp offers a rare glimpse into life far off the beaten path.
The tour takes you down the winding mountain road into the fjord, with your guide sharing stories and insights along the way. You’ll visit the majestic Klifbrekkufossar waterfall, one of East Iceland’s most photogenic natural features, as well as explore hidden highlights like Prestagil Ravine, rich with folklore, and Smjörvogur, a secluded cove once used as a natural prison.
You’ll also pass the historic site of Asknes, where the remains of one of the largest whaling stations in the world still stand – a silent reminder of Iceland’s past.
To end the journey, you’ll stop in the village for a relaxing visit to a cosy local café, where you can enjoy a good cup of coffee and light refreshments (not included) before heading back.

Mjóifjörður – Iceland’s Tiniest Town

Take a walk in one of Iceland’s most unique gardens: a beautiful collection of stones and minerals that show how Iceland was created. 
Geologically speaking, the East Fjords are one of the oldest areas in Iceland and have the most diverse rock variety. A local East Icelander, Petra Sveinsdóttir, created this magnificent exhibit of rocks and minerals over a lifetime. She designed a display in her house and garden. More than 90% of the minerals and semi-precious stones come from the surrounding Stöðvarfjörður area.
Petra began building her mineral collection when she and her husband bought their house in 1946. Petra had a special talent when it came to locating a beautiful stone. Local people tell stories about how Petra had the ability to find a magnificent mineral in a place where they just had been walking minutes before. Petra compared mineral collecting to hunting or fishing.
The museum is not only an interesting geological exhibit, it also will give you an insight into the local life of East Iceland through one of the area’s most unique residents.

Vök Baths and the floating infinity pools let you fully immerse yourself in the area&#8217;s unspoiled beauty.
Vök Baths is on the beautiful Lake Urriðavatn in East Iceland. Located only 5-kilometres (3 miles) northwest of Egilsstaðir, Vök Baths is an essential stop on any visit to this part of the country.
Vök Baths harnesses the geothermal power of the region to create a unique bathing experience. The floating infinity pools let you fully immerse yourself in the unspoiled beauty of the area. Additionally, there are two onshore hot pools, an outdoor pool bar, a steam bath, and a cold tunnel equipped with a mist shower. There is also a pool bar where you can enjoy a refreshing beverage while soaking in crystal clear waters surrounded by the unique Icelandic nature.
The geothermal water used in the baths is unique in Iceland. It is the only geothermal water certified for drinking in the whole country.
Get a taste for East Iceland and with a meal at the adjoining Vök Bistro. The menu changes depending on what’s seasonally available. Visit the Tea Bar and sample a selection of tisanes (teas) made from locally sourced herbs and brewed with hot spring water from the lake.
