Christmas and New Year’s Eve are magical periods in Iceland. The Icelandic Christmas season lasts from mid-December to early January, with different traditions to enjoy. New Year’s Eve festivities in our home city of Reykjavík are celebrated with a big bang, as the city lifts the ban on fireworks and we Icelanders light up the night sky with a brilliant show. Your group can join the fun and celebrate the turning of the year, Icelandic-style! Visit the celebrated Golden Circle natural wonders and enjoy the relaxing Blue Lagoon. You’ll also enjoy the New Year’s celebration itself with a wonderful dinner and a visit to a traditional bonfire.

An Iceland Travel guide will meet you at the airport and bring you out to where the tour vehicle is waiting. Head over the lunar landscapes of Reykjanes Peninsula as you drive to Reykjavík. Your guide will give you an introduction to your tour as you travel to your hotel.
Please note guaranteed early check-in is not included in the price. Most hotels begin check-in around 14:00 (2:00pm).
Dinner is on your own tonight. Reykjavík’s tempting variety of restaurants and cuisines will make the dining experience a delight. (We can also add dinner on this night for your group, if requested.)

Welcome to the Land of Fire and Ice!

31 December

Golden Falls – Spouting Geysers – National Park with Wonders – New Year Celebration
Enjoy a delicious and healthy Icelandic breakfast buffet at your hotel. Meet your guide and driver and head on a day of natural wonders in the Golden Circle! The first stop is Þingvellir National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site famous for its tectonic plate geology and for its special place in Icelandic history. You’ll even have the rare chance to take a walk between two continents!
You will then visit the famous Gullfoss &#8220;Golden&#8221; Waterfall, which many Icelanders consider to be the country‘s most beautiful waterfall. Nearby, your group will discover the lively hot spring area of Geysir. View the lively Strokkur geyser spout a column of water up to 30 metres (98 feet) every few minutes, as well as many interesting other bubbling and boiling hot springs.
After an amazing day, your group will return to your hotel in Reykjavík in the afternoon, where your guide bids you farewell.
This Evening: New Year’s Celebration Dinner
Tonight, enjoy a wonderful New Year’s Eve festive buffet dinner with live entertainment at the Grand Hotel Reykjavík. Later, we will take you on a bonfire tour. There are planned bonfires in various areas of the city, and Icelandic families gather to sing songs and share wishes for a good new year. Your group will join one of these bonfires and take in the spirit and cheer of the evening.
Afterwards, you can enjoy canapés and watch the city fireworks from the Grand Hotel Reykjavík’s 4th floor in one of the most beautiful festive halls in the city.
You’ll be able to view the amazing fireworks at midnight. After midnight the clubs and pubs open again for people to celebrate the New Year, with partying into the very early morning hours.
Your group will have the option to return to your hotel for the night or to stay in Reykjavík downtown, where you can enjoy the festivities and return to the hotel on your own.

Golden Circle Tour and New Year’s Eve Dinner

1 January

Surreal Lava Fields – Geothermal Lagoon – Leisure Time in Reykjavík
Breakfast at your hotel. What better way to start the New Year than soaking in the soothing azure waters of the Blue Lagoon? We can set up your Blue Lagoon visit for the morning or the afternoon.
Your group is picked up by a motorcoach for an unguided transfer to the Blue Lagoon through the lunar landscapes of the Reykjanes Peninsula. The Blue Lagoon is a unique natural pool of mineral rich geothermal water, located in an exotic lava field. You’ll enjoy a relaxing bath in the brilliantly blue waters of Iceland’s most famous geothermal spa. You’ll get to try the skin softening white silica clay, an essential part of this ultimate spa experience. Your visit also includes towel rental, a silica clay facial mask and your choice of one drink from the Blue Lagoon’s bar.
After a refreshing visit, you’ll return to Reykjavík. The rest of the day is at your leisure.
Dinner is on your own. An Icelandic tradition is to have a nice dinner out on New Year’s Day. Several restaurants in the city offer festive New Year’s Day dinners. Reservations are recommended. Let us know if you would like us to set up a dinner for your group.

Blue Lagoon Relaxation

2 January

Breakfast at your hotel. (Please note that this might be a light breakfast if you are taking an early morning departure flight).
Meet your bus driver at your hotel for an unguided transfer to Keflavík Airport and your return flight. You’ll have the chance to take in some final views of Iceland as you drive along the Reykjanes Peninsula to the airport. Enjoy your trip back to your home country and the fond memories of your time in Iceland!
