Day 1

Welcome to Iceland! Meet your guide and private tour bus at Keflavík International Airport. Reykjanes Peninsula offers a dramatic landscape. We will drive only a short distance to reach the Víkingaheimar Museum. Conveniently located near Keflavík airport, this museum focuses on the Vikings who explored Greenland and North America. A highlight is the Íslendingur, a replica of a Viking ship that sailed between Iceland and North America in the year 2000 to celebrate the 1.000th anniversary of the Viking Leifur Eiríksson’s voyage to North America. The museum’s café will serve your group a delicious Icelandic breakfast buffet, a great start for your tour.
After the breakfast your group will get on the coach again and proceed to the impressive geothermal and mud pool area of Krýsuvík. Powerful jets of steam escape from deep below the earth’s crust, and sulphurous steam rises from numerous vents. After a visit here, your group will continue to Kleifarvatn, a lake set in fascinating, stark, moon-like surroundings.
Continue on to the city of Reykjavík by driving through the town of Hafnarfjörður, known for its Viking and elf heritage. Drive past the Presidential residence of Bessastaðir on the way to your hotel. Please note that check-in starts at 2:00pm (14:00).
The rest of the day is open for your own activities. (Please note that lunch is not included today.) For a late afternoon activity we recommend visiting a great geothermal swimming pool within walking distance from your hotel. It’s a wonderful Icelandic tradition and a great way to shake off jetlag.
This evening, your group will meet in the lobby and walk together to a nearby restaurant for a Welcome dinner.

Arrival – Viking World – Reykjanes Peninsula – Reykjavík

Day 2

Breakfast at your accommodation. Today is your opportunity to explore the capital of Iceland, Reykjavík. Your private guide will meet you again, and your private coach will drive your group to the historical down-town area of Reykjavík. Explore the main sites of interest of the capital of Iceland with your knowledgeable guide.
Reykjavík is a modern city with a wide range of restaurants, museums, galleries and theaters. The tour takes you by the old town centre, the Parliament, the National Museum and the bustling harbour area, as well as other points of interests. Your tour bus continues past Reykjavík&#8217;s largest outdoor swimming pool in Laugardalur, which is heated with water from natural hot springs under the city. You will also stop at the Ásmundur Sveinsson Sculpture museum. A highlight is a view of Hallgrímskirkja church, whose high steeple is a landmark visible from all over the city…and beyond.  (Please note there is now a fee to park vehicles near the church). Your tour continues to the Pearl (Perlan) for a visit to the interactive Wonders of Iceland exhibition. Learn and experience the natural forces that created Iceland, including a walk through a man-made glacier tunnel. You’ll also visit the Pearl’s observation deck for one of the best views over the city and surrounding mountains.
The tour ends at your hotel or in the city centre depending on your group wish. If you want to stay in the city centre and explore more on your own, then you would make your own way back to the hotel. (Please note lunch is not included in today&#8217;s day tour, but Reykjavík has a wonderful selection of places to suit all budgets).
Tonight, you’ll meet in the lobby and walk together to a nearby restaurant for dinner.

Reykjavík

Day 3

Breakfast at your accommodation. Meet your guide and head to the Golden Circle region. No visit to Iceland is complete without this beautiful and educational area of natural wonders. Start your adventure with a visit to Þingvellir National Park, site of the world´s oldest democratic parliament founded in 930 AD. Every year Vikings across the land met here for many days to discuss laws, conduct business and even make marriage arrangements. Þingvellir is also the site where the North American and European tectonic plates at the dramatic Mid-Atlantic ridge. You’ll have the unusual chance to walk between two continents.
A treat for the day is a stop in the hot spring town of Laugarvatn for a taste of sweet rye bread that has been naturally baked in the geothermal heat of the ground. Watch it being dug up and sliced for you to enjoy with some fresh Icelandic butter.
Afterwards, your group continues to the Geysir and Golden Circle area. Explore Gullfoss, the &#8220;Golden Waterfall&#8221; from a series of paths with great views. The nearby Geysir hot spring area to see the famous erupting Strokkur hot spring, as well as numerous other hot springs and boiling mud pools.
During the day, your group will stop at Friðheimar, a family-owned greenhouse farm to see how the family grows vegetables with the help of pollution-free geothermal heat. Enjoy the chance to sample some delicious tomatoes. You’ll also have a chance to meet some of the farm’s friendly Icelandic horses.
The journey then continues to the town of Hvolsvöllur. Visit the LAVA Centre, an excellent interactive exhibit about Iceland’s active volcanoes and earthquakes. You’ll discover how these natural forces have sculpted Iceland over thousands of years. This is a fun place to visit for all age groups!
Dinner and overnight at Hotel Hvolsvöllur or similar.

Reykjavík – Golden Circle – Friðheimar Farm – Hvolsvöllur

Day 4

After an early start and breakfast, your group heads to the beautiful South shore region. If the skies are clear, you’ll have a view of two famous volcanoes. Beautiful Mt. Hekla is Iceland’s most frequently erupting volcano (last eruption in year 2000). Eyjafjallajökull’s 2010 eruption halted international air traffic.
Stop at Seljalandsfoss, a ribbon-shaped waterfall you can walk behind if trail conditions are just right. Drive along the hills of Eyjafjallajökull, a beautiful setting with rich farmland. Visit breathtaking Skógafoss, one of Iceland’s most photographed waterfalls.
The next stop is Sólheimajökull Glacier for a chance to try glacier hiking, which is usually the highlight experience of our school groups visiting Iceland. You will receive glacier gear. Local professional mountain guides will help you put on the gear and lead you on to the glacier’s “tongue.” During the hike you’ll learn all about the glacier and how it developed, as well as interesting facts about glaciers in general.
After your ice adventure, return to your hotel for the night.
Return to Hvolsvöllur in the late afternoon.
Dinner and overnight at Hotel Hvolsvöllur or similar.
Note: Lunch box included in today’s day tour. Lunch box is provided by the hotel.
*Please note that Dyrhólaey is closed during nesting season in the spring from early May until late June.

The South Shore – Skógar – Glacier Hike – Hvolsvöllur

Day 5

Breakfast at your accommodation. Today you’ll be driving in the direction of Reykjavík via Reykjanes Peninsula and the Blue Lagoon. The Lagoon is a unique wonder: a lake with pleasantly warm mineral-rich geothermal water in the middle of a black lava field. The high natural levels of silica and minerals give the Lagoon its rich blue color and are great for your skin. Your group will relax there for approximately one and a half hours. After a relaxing experience the journey will continue to the colourful Gunnuhver geothermal field. Next, view the light house Reykjanesvíti and its impressive cliffs before continuing to the Bridge Across Two Continents, a symbol for the American and the Eurasian tectonic plates drifting apart in Iceland.
Return to Reykjavík and check in to your hotel.
This evening, your group will enjoy the plentiful salad buffet feast at the Hotel Cabin or dinner at a nearby restaurant.

Reykjanes Peninsula – Blue Lagoon – Reykjavík

Day 6

Breakfast at your hotel. (Please note that this might be a light breakfast if you are taking an early morning departure flight.) Meet your coach driver for an unguided transfer to Keflavík Airport for your return flight. You’ll have the chance to take in some final views of Iceland as you drive to the airport. Enjoy your trip back to your home country!
