The Puffin Express by RIB Speedboat is the perfect option for an exciting, fast tour that presents the opportunity to get really close to the birds! The adventure starts at the Old Harbour of Reykjavík.
Lundey and Akurey are two small islands located in the Reykjavík bay area, only 15 minutes away from Reykjavík’s Old Harbour. The islands are covered with small hills and slopes, and both are well known for their colourful birdlife. The islands’ shores are rocky, but our RIB speedboats are perfect to get as close to the islands as possible due to the shallow draft.
When we arrive at the islands, we turn off the engine so our passengers can observe the birds and the beautiful surroundings. Our licensed guide shares lots of information about the puffins and other birds of interest that are often seen on the puffin watching tours. Other birds spotted include northern fulmars, gulls, arctic terns, and black guillemots.
Our tours by speedboat are fun and educational, and they only take one hour.

Puffin Express by RIB Speedboat

Day Tours

Imagine viewing whales and puffins in wild nature. Enjoy a thrilling RIB speedboat trip from the famous whale watching town Húsavík in the north of Iceland.
With our RIB speedboats we can offer you more area to cover in search for whales, the gentle giants of the sea. A RIB boat is faster than the wind, so it is more likely for us to find the big whales. Normally you do not have to leave Skjálfandi Bay to see whales, but this tour focuses on finding the bigger ones further out. Nothing is guaranteed, but your chances to encounter some of the world’s biggest animals increases.
After you put on warm safety overall and a life jacket, step aboard a modern RIB speedboat and head out to the beautiful surroundings of Skjalfandi Bay. Your specialised wildlife guide will demonstrate the safety on board and give you live commentary on the sights encountered throughout the tour.
Your first visit is Puffin Island during the nesting period (April 15th – August 15th approximately) to observe thousands of colourful puffins, often called the “Clowns of the Ocean.”
After a short pit stop by the island, your journey continues into the deeper waters of Skjálfandi Bay to look for whales. Watching whales in a respectful way in their wild natural environment from a RIB speedboat is a unique experience.

Whale Safari and Puffins in RIB boat (from Húsavík)

Join our highly enthusiastic and experienced team in the search for whales, dolphins, and birds near Reykjavík.
Enjoy a magical journey into Faxaflói bay with our expert crew. Magnificent landscapes surround the area and add a unique contrast to the vast ocean.
You’ll search for whales under the excellent guidance of our marine biologist guides while learning about the incredible Icelandic wildlife. The bay is also full of birdlife that feed on the sea’s plentiful fish.
The most common whale species on our tours include minke whales, humpback whales, white-beaked dolphins, and harbour porpoises. Occasionally we’ll see killer whales, fin whales, sei whales and long-finned pilot whales. One of our excellent naturalists will give a live commentary throughout the tour and notify you of any sightings as we go.
Start your tour with our Visitor Centre, located on board a converted fishing vessel permanently placed by the pier. Stroll through our unique floating wildlife exhibition to learn more about the animals you might see. You’ll board the boat through the Visitor Centre. You can stay outside in the fresh air but you are also welcome to settle inside the heated lounge and observe from within.
Our whale watching boat has several outdoor viewing platforms, a heated indoor saloon with large viewing windows, a cafeteria where you can buy light refreshments, toilet facilities and a cloak room where you can borrow our blankets and overalls for the duration of the tour.

Whale Watching Classic

Enjoy a silent excursion onboard an electric, eco-friendly whale watching boat. Experience minimum disturbance to whales and nature and no carbon footprint.
Can you imagine anything better than sailing around Skjálfandi Bay with pods of whales all around? It’s sailing around Skjálfandi Bay on board the most animal – and environmentally friendly whale watching vessels in the world! Our electric — and silent — boats glide through the sea, giving you the opportunity to quietly approach whales in their natural habitat while causing them minimum disturbance.
The sustainable approach to nature is combined with our professional crew, specially trained in responsible conduct with the whales. As you approach the whales, your guide will tell you more about these magnificent creatures and explain how the low-noise, low-energy ship is designed to cause minimal interference with their natural environment.
On the way back to Húsavík, you’ll enjoy warming up with a cup of hot chocolate and some freshly baked cinnamon buns.
