Iceland’s South Coast is a true natural beauty with numerous attractions along its coastline. The astonishing highlight is Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon and its surrounding wonderland, truly one of a kind.
The sheer force of nature carved one of the outlet glaciers from Vatnajökull ice cap, Iceland’s largest and Europe’s most voluminous glacier. It also formed Jökulsárlón and the Diamond Beach. The beach’s black-velvet-textured sand is scattered with big and small blocks of ice. The Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon appeared in the 1970s and has become a symbol of Iceland’s pure and ever-changing nature. We will also check out the neighbouring and quieter Fjallsárlón lagoon.
We will make several stops along the way. You’ll visit the hidden gem Stjórnarfoss waterfall, the mysterious Seljalandsfoss &#8211; the waterfall you can walk behind &#8211; and the charming, seafront town Vík, famous for its black sand beach and the majestic Reynisdrangar sea stacks.
This long day is filled with impressive attractions and picturesque landscapes, making the journey unforgettable.

Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon & South Iceland

Day Tours

Experience the wonderful volcanic southern coastline of Iceland with its thundering waterfalls, endless black sand beaches and glacier coated volcanoes, accompanied by an audio guide available in 10 different languages! 
Your tour starts with a drive through lava fields by the actively volcanic Hengill mountain and then down to the rich coastal farmland. On clear days you can see Hekla Volcano. In the distance, the glacier capped Eyjafjallajökull Volcano will rise majestically above the coastal mountains at its base. Just off the coastline are the volcanic Westman Islands, an archipelago of around 15 small islands. 
Your first stop is at Reynisfjara black sand beach, which is every photographer’s dream. The powerful Atlantic waves crashing on the black sands, the jagged basalt sea stacks, and the huge basalt-column cave are all sights to take your breath away. 
After being amazed by the power of the sea you will head on to Vík. The village of Vík is the southernmost village in Iceland. Despite its small size (291 inhabitants), Vík is the largest settlement for 70 km (44 miles)! 
On your way back to Reykjavík, you’ll stop by the powerful Skógafoss Waterfall where a short walk up a flight of steps takes you to one of Iceland’s most scenic views that includes glaciers, volcanoes and black sandy beaches. The last stop of your day is a visit to the ribbon-like Seljalandsfoss Waterfall, famous for the hidden pathway behind and around it.

South Coast Classic

Enjoy an easy Glacier Walk on Sólheimajökull glacier and visit two stunning waterfalls on this year-round day tour from Reykjavík.
A glacier walk is a great way to experience Icelandic nature, and a tour to Sólheimajökull glacier is an ideal way to spend your day.
After departing Reykjavík, you will take a scenic 2-hour drive to Sólheimajökull glacier along the South Coast of Iceland. You will pass right under the famous Eyjafjallajökull volcano that caused so much trouble in the spring of 2010. Just east of the volcano lies Sólheimajökull, an outlet glacier from Mýrdalsjökull, Iceland’s fourth-largest glacier.
Before stepping on the glacier, you will get all the necessary gear, such as an ice axe, crampons, and a harness.  Your glacier guides will take you on a safe and easy glacier walk on crampons up onto the icy landscape. As you explore the wonderland of ice sculptures, ridges, and deep crevasses, you will learn about these disappearing giants.
On this tour you will also visit the marvelous Skógafoss and Seljalandsfoss waterfalls.

South Coast and Glacier Hike

Here is an easy sightseeing day trip with an adventurous twist! 
Get your chance to walk behind the ribbon-shaped cascade of Seljalandsfoss Waterfall and admire Skógafoss Waterfall up close. Stroll onto a volcanic black sand beach overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. Join our certified glacier guides on an action-packed hike out onto a 700-year-old glacier tongue!
The first stop is at Seljalandsfoss waterfall, one of Iceland&#8217;s greatest attractions. Here you&#8217;ll have the amazing opportunity to walk behind the magnificent wall of water and feel the power generated by the fall.
Experience incredible views as you pass through the fertile farming lands and small villages of south Iceland, an area rich in Viking history and heritage, watched over by the infamous Eyjafjallajökull and Hekla volcanoes.
The next step on your journey is a giant step for those that have never set foot on a glacier. Hear the ancient ice crack as you safely enjoy your hike on the glacier tongue with our certified glacier guide. The hiking part of the tour is about 2 hours, with 1-1.5 hours spent on the glistening glacier.
After the thrill of the glacier, you’ll head for Reynisfjara, where you can stroll along the black sand beach known for its famous basalt columns and caverns. Witness the Reynisdrangar cliffs and basalt rock stacks that rise from the sea.
End this incredible day tour by stopping at the majestic Skógafoss Waterfall. Walk right up to the thundering waterfall and feel the spray on your face. You can even walk up the 527 steps for a bird’s eye view of cascading water and rainbows.
