Experience the best parts of the south coast of Iceland, all the way to the picturesque town of Vik. In one spectacular day you will witness massive glaciers, powerful waterfalls, volcanic black sand beaches, infamous volcanoes and even see re-melted lava indoors at the Icelandic Lava Show.
Your first stop is at the famous Skogafoss waterfall. On sunny days you might be treated to a rainbow appearing in the mist of the waterfall. This majestic waterfall was a filming location for Game of Thrones, Vikings and Eurovision Song Contest.
Drive to Reynisfjara to see the amazing rock formations at this spectacular black sand beach. The angular basalt columns with their hexagonal shapes are the perfect photo spot on calm days.
Next, you’ll visit the Icelandic Lava Show in Vik town. This family friendly show pours real lava over blocks of ice mere meters from where you are sitting. You will feel the heat (from a safe distance) as your local guide tells you all about his grandfather’s narrow escape from the 1918 Katla eruption. You will even get a chance to take some of the newly cooled lava glass home with you.
After a lunch break, drive to one of the true highlights of the trip. Your group gets ready for a valley walk to an area with a great view of the stunning Solheimajokull glacier. The walk takes around 20 minutes in each direction. Your guide will take you as close to the front of the glacier as possible, based on the day‘s weather conditions. Please note you will not walk on the glacier.
Your final stop of the day is the ribbon-like Seljalandsfoss waterfall. You can walk behind the falls if trail conditions are safe.
