Explore the unique colours of Vatnshellir Cave on the Snæfellsnes Peninsula.
The area all around the Snæfellsjökull glacier contains hundreds of lava tubes, which is really special for people interested in caves.  Vatnshellir is an 8.000- year-old lava tube created by volcanic eruption from a nearby crater in the Purkhólar crater family. As the lava rushed down the hill in a lava river it began to cool on the surface, creating a crust on top of the lava river. As the eruption stopped, all the lava from underneath this crust continued to drain out. That eventually left behind an empty tube with a roof on top that gradually cooled down.
Now it&#8217;s possible to explore the insides of the lava field by joining us on a guided tour.  Walk along the 200-metre (656 foot) cave and down 35 metres (115 feet) below the surface to experience unique colours and lava formations.

Explore the magnificent lava tunnel Raufarhólshellir, one of the longest and best-known lava tubes in Iceland and located just 30 minutes from Reykjavík.
A journey into Raufarhólshellir is a unique experience. It&#8217;s a great opportunity to witness the inner workings of a volcanic eruption. You&#8217;ll walk in the path of lava that flowed during the Leitahraun eruption, which occurred about 5200 years ago. Every winter spectacular ice sculptures form inside the entrance of the cave, making the experience of visiting the lava tunnel even more breathtaking.
The total length of the tunnel is an impressive 1360 m (4500 ft), the main tunnel being 900 m (3000 ft) long. The tunnel is up to 30 m (98 ft) wide with headroom up to 10 m (32 ft) high, making it one of the most expansive lava tunnels in Iceland.
A footbridge ensures that you can explore the tunnel in an easy and enjoyable manner. Impressive lighting highlights the changing colours and clearly shows the powerful volcanic activity that formed the tunnel.
Your tour includes a guided caving tour in English and use of a helmet and headlamp. A return bus transfer to the cave can be added at the time of purchase. We do recommend you bring warm clothes and sturdy shoes. There is usually some water dripping from the ceiling, so wearing a water resistant or waterproof jacket/clothes is also a good idea.

Lava Tunnel Tour – Caving (meet on location)

Nowhere else in Iceland is there a better chance to see sperm whales and orcas than along the Snæfellsnes Peninsula coastline.
If you are traveling around the Snæfellsnes Peninsula, Ólafsvík is a perfect place to join a whale watching tour.
Sitting on the north end of the peninsula, the town is close to the bountiful waters of the clear North Atlantic Ocean, where a number of whale species feed.
This unique trip takes you into the waters around Snæfellsnes, where ocean giants swim in the shadow of the magnificent Snæfellsjökull Glacier. Nowhere else in Iceland is there a better chance to see toothed whales such as orcas, sperm whales, and pilot whales than along this beautiful coastline.
Orcas are most often seen in winter, spring, and early summer (February through early July), but there is a chance of seeing them all the way through the summer months.  Male sperm whales can be seen between about March and June (mostly) out in deeper water regularly and sometimes show up on trips later in the year also.
During late summer and into autumn we mostly see minke whales, humpback whales and white-beaked dolphins.

This journey takes you on a guided tour in a monster truck to the entrance of the Langjökull Ice Cave. The man-made tunnel in Langjökull glacier is the largest of its kind in the world.
