There is always something charming about small islands, and the harmony of thousands of birds in Vigur Island, close to Isafjordur, completes the beautiful landscape.
Starting from the harbour in Isafjordur, you will reach Vigur after about an half an hour boat ride. There you will be met by the single local family, followed by a leisurely walk around the island. It’s a perfect opportunity to see the abundance of birds in their natural environment. The island is a home for thousands of birds like eider ducks, arctic terns, puffins, black guillemot and more. The only wind mill in Iceland is located in Vigur. Refreshments are served by the farmer’s family in a mid-19th century house.
Prior to heading back, you can visit the smallest post office in Europe and send home a card or two.
